Belmont is heaven, especially on a fine afternoon in May or June. I get weepy just thinking about it.

Saratoga is too crowded to be enjoyable. My husband calls it Coney Island with horses, except you can't even see the horses.

Really?

Someone just voted in an 8yr old poll?

The silliness never ends

(I did not BUMP this thread by posting this - it was already bumped)

Favorite Racetrack to Spend the Day

I just voted for the first time. Had it close between Saratoga in August or the Big A in February. Went with the former; the aroma of weed coming from the cold, dark stairways of frigid Aqueduct was not enough to sway me.

I've not been to Saratoga, but it is on my bucket list. For me it is Keeneland in the fall. The spring meet, not so much.

Belmont Park on a weekday with good weather.
It's all that 'space' when you look out onto the track from the grandstand.
You can breathe! You can find your own private corner and sit there in your own thoughts, read a book, or type away on a laptop. Or even pick up the local lingo in the main area: "Five alive! Five alive!" or "Tree fo' Johnny V! Tree fo' Johnny V!" or "Uno! Uno! Uno! Puta conyo....."

And there is a park in the back you can just sit and watch the world go by.

Unfortunately the version of vBulletin software that PA uses (3.0, 10 years old) does that. The newer versions have to capability of not bumping a poll whenever someone votes.

Ok fine....then I will be the only. What a SHOCK, lol! Mine is the inner. I know part of that is imprinting. Grew up with a summer home in the Adirondacks, so going to Saratoga was being away from that. And always felt so darned hot compared to my mountain paradise. Yes, I complained, and the folks were appalled. Belmont was grand, but I always felt pooped by the finale having to cover so much more ground. The inner was a unique experience, where there were lots of, erm, "characters" and always was my fascination. You were there because you loved racing or just were a degenerate down on their luck, but could be observed safely in most instances. I got flashed there once, but it was a cool story to bring back The interplay between Cordero and the railbirds, love or hate, was always at its best there.

Monmouth ....when it's not a big stakes day is my favorite. Just enough people so it does not feel empty. The place is well kept. And there does not seem to be too many degenerates there either.
I also like Tampa Bay Downs....It's not a bad place at all.

Of course my favorite track is Saratoga.
I responded with Mth because when I lived in NJ, it was my go to place during the summer months. Saratoga was my big time destination during that meet.
I could get done with work early and trundle on down to Mth for a few races.
Did that on many occasions....

been too:

riverdowns: liked the track, seriously a sleeper, but thought the simucast building was poorly placed sum 30+ yards from wire. And AC was out, and it was one hot muther!

Turfway: Favorite, loved handicapping the track, loved the people, and enjoyed the old lady. I'm a simpleton like that.

Bluegrassdowns(anyone know the name of it now adays?): wow, a dump, but a great place to just go and bet the horses, the peeps are pretty much your typical hardworking weekend gamblers, love the bartender, you get your beer and ask her for a $10 exacta 4-3. Not a place to bring a chick, or buddys who want to party, but a great, quiet place to gamble!
The present day Blue Grass Downs is a harness track in Paducah, KY

At this point maybe we should turn it into how many of the 9 you've been to; I've only seen 5 of the 9 and there are people on this board who've seen it all.

Enjoyed all 5 I attended (Belmont, Del Mar, Santa Anita, Gulfstream, Monmouth) but put me down as Belmont, only because that is where I attended the best race I've ever seen live.
