Concussions

Concussions in football, probably reduced by 80% if they got rid of the face mask. .....

But, broken noses will rise by %80...

I can hear it now,

"Coach, I keep breaking my nose while tackling people."

"Quit tackling with your face, son."

Common sense just think about it, they are too brave with the face mask on it would stop most targeting and head to head shots, but I could be wrong wouldn't be the first time...

There are a few who think it would be safer to play football without a helmet and pads as people would be forced to play "the right way", whatever that means.I think those who advocate this POV must have played football without a helmet in their youth.

Also you wouldn't have face mask penalty's and hardly any targeting penalty's with less concussions. You would have to start with the pee wee leagues through high school and college games then the NFL.......

From my observations, virtually all head-to-head shots are unintentional. its a rough game and the intent of the defensive player is to hit the guy with the ball as hard as he possibly can. Heads change positions just before contact is made all the time.

There's the game itself
(A violent, fast game with jacked-up super-humans... This thread does well to point out the double-edged sword of the equipment, with the helmet being both a protector and a weapon/enabler... Like boxing, like hard labor (fishing, logging, construction, etc, etc...) it's a job that takes it's toll, and many individuals will be disabled) ,

there's the propaganda/marketing image
(America's game, a Man's game, for Our Team, played by Heroes, who happen to use products just like us! Have an iced cold beer for the champions.) ,

there's also a new politically correct 'push' for the CTE science
(Guy killed himself or others?) - Hell, he had CTE! (Never mind the list of other factors like his lifetime of violence, his addiction, his steroid abuse, his financial roller coaster that recently plummeted from the top of wall street to the bottom of the ghetto), Broad brush of all-inclusive CTE qualifications w/ very few former players' results coming back 'negative' or 'minor'... That sounds politically incorrect. "Sources say he had only minor CTE, and was most likely simply a raging bipolar criminal." LOL, that is unlikely to be said or printed in the media...)

Eliminate face masks and somebody will get killed on the field. Back when 220 pounds was considered big and 4.7 speed in the 40 was lightning quick, the collisions weren't nearly as violent. Now guys who weigh 265, bench 500 and run a 4.5 40 are a time a dozen.

The only thing we are both entitled too is our opinion, you have yours and I have mine. If they keep going like the hit last night somebody will get killed and CTE will be a afterthought, By eliminating the face mask he wouldn't have hit him like that ...imo

I've seen talk of getting rid of helmets all together, and they have pretty solid data to back that opinion up.
