I thought Tawny Port was an improving 3 year old, ran decently against good competition in the Jim Dandy, bet him up and down in the PA Derby, where he ran poorly.

He's well-bred, maybe he will contend next year.

Anyone know what happened to Zozos? I had him stable mailed for months post derby, and then deleted him after I gave up hope of seeing him again.

I guess they are banking on him winning the Pegasus Faux Cup and going directly to stud afterwards. Plus they probably already got ads printed up billing him as the "first son of Gun Runner" to stud.

Is he retired? I haven't seen this. I know he has a deal with Spendthrift.

Early Voting is the first Gun Runner to stud.

Knew I shoulda googled it on the first Gun Runner son to stud.

The press release about them showing Cyberknife at Spendthrift said he would return to Brad Cox's barn to "finish his career this fall and winter".

One that lasts beyond the 3 year old season. One of the problems horse racing has regarding star power is the best and most interesting horses which would attract the casual fan, are usually retired at a young age. And lets admit it, more viewers means more eyeballs on broadcasts and hence, more money and more interest in the sport. if great horses were to race just long enough to gain public interest and the sport's powers that be could market those horses as competitors, perhaps more people would watch and even go to the track to see them compete.
This has been an ongoing issue for at least three decades . The industry is racing to breed. Rather than breeding to race.
IN case there are any doubters here, Flightline will begin his stud career next season. Fee..$200k . That's right. TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS to bring a mare to Flightline. And I am uncertain if that fee is "live foal" or not.
Obviously for select stallions, there is much more money in breeding than in racing AND...Its a heckofalot safer for the horse. Save for getting kicked in the Nads by a mare 'who ain't quite ready yet'...

It was just the absolutes of the statement.

I suppose you could blame secretariet for where we are now, he was the first 3yo massive syndicate deal before he finished racing, at least thats what i remember reading.

He was a true trendsetter.

Classic Causeway hasn’t been afraid to run. Not a world beater, but a solid 3 year old campaign. Grade 2 and Grade 3 winner on dirt, Grade 1 on turf. 10 starts.

Who knows what the future holds for Jack Christopher, who has missed time due to injury and was withdrawn from Breeders Cup.
Not sure of the whereabouts of Zandon and Smile Happy.

Cyberknife, Nest, Taiba, and sprinter/miler types like Gunite & Echo Zulu may all return, hopefully.
Matareya ?
Annapolis & Moira come to mind in the turf division.

I'm sure I'm forgetting a few good sophomores, but the second half of the year has been a let down for me.
Modern Games
Secret Oath
Morello
Forbidden Kingdom (hopefully he gets straightened out)

Cheers for Richard Dawson--thank goodness there's one Owner left in the game who can afford to be a Sport.

Rich Strike is evidence that if you want a horse who can actually put together a real career, you might start with a sire like Keen Ice who was himself sturdy enough to race 24 times, including 5 graded races as a 5-year old.
I say this as a fan of Rich Strike: even if Dawson wanted to retire the horse to stud, his overall race record and pedigree would generate lukewarm interest at best.
