Never a bad thing to be annually reminded of the greatness that was Holy Bull. And while this isn't the strongest rendition of this Derby prep, the field does look to be competitive and wager worthy.
Lord Miles: Off an amazing Friday where he won 7 straight races, Irad hops aboard the first of two Saffie entries. His two races to date are pretty solid, and rolls in off a :59.3 bullet work as well. Could sit a nice trip with what could be a contested pace. Solid contender.
West Coast Cowboy: The second of the two Saffie entries looks as though he may be up against it with much stronger early speed in the field than what he has shown thus far. Backers will get a solid price.
Shadow Dragon: New York bred shipper leaves state bred company up north and dips his hooves into open stakes company. This $375K purchase needs to seriously up his game to contend today.
Cyclone Mischief: ML favorite comes in off a huge win at this track where he blitzed the field and put up a solid number. Even if he merely replicates his last he is a major contender.
Mr. Bob: Horrible break in his last in the Mucho Macho Man stakes all but eliminated his chances in that one. Obviously the connections and Rosario will be sternly focused on breaking well today to get this one into the race early. Backers will get the benefit of that poor showing in his last likely bumping his price a couple points. Has to be considered.
Legacy Isle: The lone undefeated horse in the field could well be the speed of the speed. Attracts the services of one of the best front end jocks in the business in Saez as well. Should contend for favorite status in his first two turn venture.
Il Miracolo: This well bred Gun Runner has hit a pretty big wall when stepping up into stakes company in his last two. Needs massive improvement to even be a factor here. Likely the longest price on the board come post time.
Rocket Can: This second Mott entry would relish for a pace duel to develop up front. Maybe would have preferred a wet track, but at the very least has to be considered in exotics wagering. While others look more desirable, he definitely wouldn't be a surprise to cross the line first.
