You're trolling me, right?
I thought you knew about stocks.
Ever heard of a STOP? A STOP LOSS?
If you're a total newbie, then I apologize, and never mind...

I could be doing EXACTLY what I am doing now, with the SPY ETF instead.
However, I choose the E-mini S&P futures contract as my medium of choice due to the favorable margin and tax requirements.

4503.25 - 4482.75 = 20.5 points.
I went LONG. I bought. Thus I want the price of the contract to GO UP.
If it goes DOWN by 20.5 points after I buy it, and I sell, I lost 20.5 points.
4503.25 - 4482.75 = a 20.5 point loss
What's not to get?
If I buy a stock at 100 and I sell it at 80, I lost 20 as well...same thing.

Can you buy short?

If you traded SPY instead, you would have bought around the 449.40 - 449.50 mark and sold around 450.67
Would have made approx $1 in profit or thereabouts...you would have had to trade around 600 shares to make around $600 profit (what I made in the trade using E-mini)
600 shares @ $449.40 per share in SPY is gonna require $269,000 dollars....at the standard 4-1 margin, you would need about $67,250 in your account to make that trade....
I only need $12,500 in my account to get the same exact leverage. And if I don't intend to hold after 5pm, I would only need $500 in my account to get that same leverage.
As you can see, if you want to day trade the S&P, it's a great way to go...

there is less juice (the vigorish) and less front running or even none in the E-mine.
but you have to be a top trader to stay in the game, but that is what you are.

I don't use TD anymore, but I believe they had e-mini futures when I still had an account there...which was at least 4-5 years ago
But if you're serious in your lack of trading knowledge, as you appear to be, I would definitely NOT be looking to trade futures...especially now in this kind of market...cause you might as well light your money on fire...at least it will keep you warm for a few seconds
You might want to trade the E-mini MICROS (which are 1/10 the size of a regular e-mini contract...thus each point is worth only $5 and not $50 per contract)
https://www.cmegroup.com/trading/equ...res.html#specs
Actually, anything you try and "trade" that you have little experience in WILL CRUSH YOU...you need to PAPER TRADE and back-test and forward-test and optimize (but not too much) your strategies.
Unless you're one of those rare gifted traders who can just look at a chart and you know what to do immediately (or not do)...
