Please say it's not so.
I'm waiting for a track that's not successful with their SUCKER jackpot bets to promote the return of a traditional pick six, where every holder of a ticket with all six splits 80% and 5 of 6 splits the other 20%. and if no one hits six there is a legitimate carryover with out the 40% takeout the SUCKER jackpot bets have.

Good spot for it, with all the short fields that income from the carryover takeout will keep going up up because they can't card enough full race's for someone to be the only winner. If they are that desperate to increase the betting pools, put out good races that have more than 5 betting interests.

Well DUH?
I thing good fields are a thing of the past.
Why no one wants to run for the big purses is a mystery.
But they don't.
Perhaps the conditions for races needs to be re-evaluated.
They already have $5K claimers running for $12,500, so why not cared som nickel c,aimers and get horses from other tracks.
10 nickels on a fast dirt track is a lot better than 4 or 5 $100K horses on a paved turf course.

Well then move me to the list of dead players.
I only bet tracks like NYRA w/o the jackpot. I live more on my consols than actual signers. Cut the consols in half and I'm gone.

Edit. It's not responsible business-its chasing the lemmings.

I wish NYRA or some track would try a hybrid variety of pick 6.
So many people hate these jackpot wagers in their current form, while the $2 pick 6 has the complaints of being dominated by the whales for being too expensive to play for the average bettor. Neither represents my view necessarily, just saying what I think seems to be the general arguments on each side.
So how about something like a $1 pick 6, 20% takeout, 10% carries over to a jackpot pool when hit by more than 1 person, full pool carryover when nobody picks 6 in a day, and personally I would love to see no consolation payouts. Also I would suggest mandatory payout days, possibly when the jackpot carry pool hits 300k or the last race day of each month as suggestions.
I think this would make for a very interesting & popular wager, but maybe there's just no more meeting in the middle any more.

So Gaming commission approved the rules and now it's open for 60 days for public comment. Not sure where but I'll take a look.
NYRA says no plan to implement but they just want the 'optionailty'. Whatever.

If nobody liked these bets, they wouldn't be successful.
Obviously they must generate handle.
That may suck, but bear in mind, nowhere it is written that just because a track offers a bet, that y'all have to bet it. Tracks offer place and show bets that I bet most of the people here don't play.

What is your definition of successful?
Here are some things they do....
They take money out of circulation for significant periods of time thus reducing churn. One cannot argue the overall value of churn ( a proven fact ) and disagree with the prior statement. They are not mutually exclusive.
Return significantly less to the players than any other wager on a daily basis, which also reduces churn.
Here are some things they likely do....
Fail to create the added handle that a normal Pick-6 Carryover can create because no player sees the supposed "Jackpot Carryover" as something worth chasing on any given day other than the mandatory giveaway day.
Inequitably distribute the pool to players and whales alike. While one could argue this is taking place in many pools, likely not to the extent of Jackpot wagers. The carryovers are very much built on the backs of small players who do not get anywhere close to a similar distribution when such carryovers are distributed.
It's, like most things, a complicated discussion. But using the word "successful" wouldn't be how I would label the wager.

Like the above, not sure what your using to define success. Just because everyone else is doing it? I think you would need to provide handle numbers to substantiate your statement.
