Angry Oaklawn forces PTC to close accounts in AR

At least that's what this email message says.

=============================

Dear PTC Customer,

Unfortunately, due to issues out of our control in Arkansas involving account deposit wagering (ADW), we have to close your account with Premier Turf Club. Oaklawn Park has insisted that we close any accounts based in Arkansas. If you are no longer an Arkansas resident, please let us know.

This will be effective starting Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2021. Checks based on your account balance, if applicable, will be sent out no later than Dec. 15th.

If you need to log into your BetPTC account prior to then, but forgot your log-in information, click the link in the top right-hand corner of the website.

Best of luck with your future horse racing endeavors.

Regretfully,

The BetPTC Team

All likely tied to Churchill's control of Oaklawn's wagering negotiations. If you can't bet Churchill tracks with your ADW, it was only a matter of time before you couldn't bet Oaklawn (once whatever existing agreement Oaklawn had with your ADW ran out).

I imagine Oaklawn will disappear from some ADWs, but this is a bit different, right? Like if you live in AR no more BetPTC? Sport is a mess.

As noted in a separate thread about AmWager - there has to be a wagering agreement between an ADW and Oaklawn (that includes being able to carry Oaklawn but is ALSO tied to source market fees for AR residents betting on tracks out of state) in order for Arkansas residents to be allowed to have an ADW account from that provider.

The ones we still have that I'm aware of:

Oaklawn Anywhere (in-state only - a TwinSpires "shell"),
TwinSpires (I'm assuming - looked like I could sign up)
NYRABets
DRF Bets (tied to Xpressbet)
Xpressbet (I'm assuming, if DRFBets is OK)

Here's a link to a column written about ADW and CRM wagering, Jan 2021.
IMO it is germane to the ADW issue and other areas that plague the "sport".

If you follow and read the post I suggest also checking the embedded links and the comments. Some, very extended.

Good link.

The most surprising number for me was the increase in Average Wagering Per Race Day by 32.69 percent. Clearly the increase in hours of television on Fox and NBCSN was important for racing. NYRA and Fox Sports increased the number of televised hours from 385 in 2019 to 777.5 hours in 2020.

I don't think it is so CLEAR.

I think that the players who play found a way to play.
