If you watch the video starting at the 2:40 mark, does she say the satellite image being viewed is from a "lightning" detecting satellite...and given all the red and yellow, does that mean the volcano blast produced lightning? Or did it mistake the blast for lightning?

Weather satellites have the ability to detect radio waves caused by lightning. Many of the newer weather satellites are equipped with optical scanners that can detect lightning.
Apparently, volcanic eruptions do have the ability to generate lightning during the early stages of an eruption - which in turn would generate radio waves that could be detected by older weather satellites. And newer satellites equipped with optical lightning scanners should be able to detect volcanic lightning.

I wonder how many degrees it warmed the ocean, how much carbon dioxide was released into the atmosphere and how it was caused by petroleum usage?

Considering this was an underwater volcanic explosion, I continue to wonder about the lightning part...

I learned not too long ago that this volcano was declared DORMANT just four days ago.
No joke.

Waiting for the Thunberg and Kerry show to chime in with "it's because of climate change".

What Causes Eerie Volcanic Lightning?
https://www.livescience.com/54443-ho...ing-works.html
Quote:
Two new studies reveal different reasons for lightning above erupting volcanoes. One cause is static electricity, from particles rubbing together in dense ash clouds near the ground. The other source of lightning happens near the stratosphere, high above the Earth's surface, where jockeying ice crystals unleash powerful jolts. [Images: Grimsvotn Volcano Puts on Lightning Show]
At Sakurajima volcano in Japan, ash particles are responsible for lightning that strikes near the ground, researchers led by Corrado Cimarelli, a volcanologist at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, Germany, reported Feb. 23 in the journal Geophysical Research Letters. For that study, the scientists recorded video of volcanic lightning at Sakurajima, one of the world's most active volcanoes. By comparing the video to infrasound and electromagnetic data, the researchers discovered thick clouds of ash give rise to static electricity. The particles rub together and the resulting charge buildup generates lightning strikes. (This is called triboelectricity.)
|
I'm guessing the plume was more than hot enough to vaporize sea water.
As the plume rose it reached a point where enough sea water had been vaporized that the ash particles were dry enough to generate enough static electricity to become lightning - which was picked up by the satellite.

COME ON MAN, it is causing climate change.
they didn't happen to see a missile from North Korea heading that way before the eruption did they?

That was not a natural event. If you have ever spent anytime on a bombing range………you would know

I have seen a couple of vids online that made me think just that.
