Bloodhorse.com Flashback: 1992 Gotham: Lure vs. Devil His Due

One of the greatest races of all time as covered by BloodHorse back in the day...the only thing missing is the video, which I've conveniently included for your historical racing pleasure:

Man that brings back some awesome memories...I loved those days back in the 90s...

Loved that horse and for me, the mid 90s was the golden era. I caught on to horse racing at the begining of the decade when horse racing made weekly appearances on televsion and Chris Lincoln hosted the Racehorse Digest. Horses still ran every two or three weeks and there were stars in the handicap division.

I was a fan of the sport before I was a gambler, I dont see how the sport cultivates those types such as myself anymore.

I think Lure hit the rail a couple of times through the stretch.

That was a great race. Thanks for posting.

Another terrific Gotham Stakes was the 1981 running.

Proud Appeal & Cure The Blues hooked up as they reached the main track
and raced to the wire with Proud Appeal winning by a nose.

lure

What a Fantastic race 43 and change and they don't quit! Top quality horses.I must say though, Lure to me was the better of the two, despite the dead heat lure hits the rail more than once and still recovers to comeback and dead heat devil his due! Tremendous video!

A few strides from the wire, it seems to be Lure didn't hit the rail, but switched leads very late...which may have cost him the win
