What's crazy about it is that I can see a tweet from a journalist, copy and paste to an email, and get it out to my email list in less than 60 seconds.

It's like anything else. You have to use it and not let it use you. I have blocked quite a few people over the last year.

Twitter is useful to me when I push an agenda usually related to horse racing. And at times it can be a lot of fun.

Anyway I understand people who don't like it.

What I don't understand is, "How is this type of hate speech alright but white supremacist talk is not?"

I'm not advocating either type of talk, but where is the condemnation of this?

I'd welcome responses to educate me in this matter, especially from left-wingers.

Hate speech is ok if it is coming from an "oppressed" group.

I don't make the rules.

And "oppressed" groups include everyone except white working males over 30 years old.

The Fresno professor's hate tweets were crude and totally unwarranted. She should have reserved her hostility for the eventual demise of Dick Cheney.

Breaking news is when all the talking heads and their guest who know next to nothing about what happened will speculate live on camera for hours as to what might have happened.

I can live without breaking news. Information is like bananas - buy 'em green and eat them in afew days when they are ripe. OR eat them green and pay for it.

.....often the breaking news is coming from everyday people on scene using their phones. Video and pics on Twitter usually are at least an hour ahead of the news types. Although some networks will air stuff direct from twitter, often twitter followers are way ahead of the curve

I've never used twitter. Facebook if you isolate yourself from all the bullshit and hate surrounding you, can be fun and useful. I have a page that I seldom post anything on, but its fun being nosy checking out others.
I also still use a flip-phone. I have no desire to use the internet outside my door, so I don't have it. If I found a sudden need, I'd bum a few minutes off someone else. I never have so far. I don't text either. If you have my number call me, I'd rather hear you than read you.
