From what I'm hearing currently, Jose Flores has not passed away, despite the tweet from PA_PHBA...just wanted to post the latest info that I have heard.

That is why I did the update from Steve Byk that he was incorrect to say he passed away. Racing Nation updated their original post.

That's just terrible to hear. My condolences to his family and his family at the track.

Words are hard to come by. Jose has been a riding force in my backyard for at least 20 years. Still, I had no idea he was 56....

My heart goes out to his family.

A great classy rider and most of all, a real gentleman.

Sad, sad news about a truly wonderful man.

RIP, Jose.

Not trying to be an ass here, but everyone should be aware he is still alive, according to any available news reports.

You are right Mike.

My 'source' was a Parx insider who rode Joanne McDaid when she rode at Suffolk years ago, I wrongly assumed he had the right info.

This morning I called him about this and he said he had spoken to Steve Byk earlier... the info of which he relayed to me ... sheesh.

McDaid is waiting for family to come from Florida, as per the Dunleavy tweet, for the final goodbyes, I'm told.

My Parx trainer who is close to Carol Cedeno told me the family is heading up to Philly but due to the bad weather they couldnt get in yesterday. Parx assumed the worst based on the Steve Byk statement which he later retracted on Horse Racing Nation.

You keep mentioning Steve Byk, as if he was somehow the reason this has been misreported by some...there were lots of tweets flying around, including from a lot of jockeys, that Flores had died....BEFORE Byk had said anything...
