Looks pretty inevitable. Going to hold off handicapping until the morning.

If you are handicapping a card for the next day, unless it is currently raining hard, never assume the track will be sloppy and the turf races will be taken off. What happened on Sunday? They stayed on the grass.

I was there WED 8/8 and was sweating it out with ominous skies and downpour at the start of the 6th. It lasted 20 minutes hard rain, they kept all the races on the TURF. I thanked the stars I dodged a bullet so booked another day for THUR perfect sunshine. I show up and all but 2 of the TURF races were OFF from the get go. I was staying 15 minutes away and never saw a drop of rain after 6:00pm the night before. SPA had to be the unluckiest of all radar dead hits while everyone else was dry. I did not understand it. No puddles in the parking lots, dry as a bone.
It was very poor racing with favorites of course, nearly impossible to make any money. I enjoyed the sunshine and the band playing in the background, but the worst wagering and deflation about the actual races in all my visits.
Oh Well, there are worst problems to have...

Time to go back to 4 weeks - 28 days.
Back then it was SARATOGA, today, it is Belmont North.
And 5 days a week.
Quantity over quantity.

Some of the races today were intentionally carded with only 6 horses(before scratches). It's garbage, and I guess you could call it incompetence, but that is too soft of language. This is intentional.
You either play early/ late pick-5s and the pick 6 (and even that is only if you know the dirt horses among the turf horses) and use the intentionally carded 'half-ass races' to pick the mispriced horse or the winner + occasionally a long shot, or you can dismiss a third of the card on a regular basis as a half-ass-race. Or you can nickle-and-dime along hoping that some former dirt horse will return form or some MTO horse will be a slight overlay.
Owners and the in-crowd trainers love the intentionally carded half-ass races with only 6 (and sometimes 5 before scratches) races. Plus, it makes the p5/p6 multis more affordable. Keeps those bettors active and guides DD, Pick-3 players over to that lane.
I haven't looked past the superficial sparse card today, so don't take this as a recommendation of value in today's p5s/p6... I don't know that.
