Had two years of unified government...
Elections have consequences or something like that?

And for some reason during that two years of GOP control, not a single mile of new fence or barrier or wall was built. Or even much discussed. And that in spite of ever growing indications that the Dems would retake the House.
And now that the Dems have the House, the need for the wall is suddenly a national emergency? Or is a battle of egos between The Donald and the Dem leadership the national emergency?
Inquiring minds want to know.

No, happens when stupid laws cause the problems.
And btw, the DEMS can also end this.
They choose not to. Even though THEY voted for walls before.
This is the standard of running the senate Harry Reid - a democrat - set.
Suck to take your own medicine.

Trump was just dumb. What he should have done was say he was going to defend the southern border with satellites, motion detectors, triple the number of ICE officers, and drones. Then his opponents would have said, just build a wall.

D's and R's had a deal to fund government.
Still do actually...
This is Trump throwing a tantrum because he's a really really really lousy President.

Some people just don't know what is good for them. The shut down is a benefit for federal employees.
Quote:
In fact, White House Council of Economic Advisers Chairman Kevin Hassett told “PBS NewsHour” that workers laid off during the shutdown are “better off,” since they can go on vacation but “they don’t have to use their vacation days.” Other Trump advisers have made similar comments.
This, of course, ignores the estimated 420,000 air-traffic controllers, TSA screeners, corrections officers, Border Patrol agents and others deemed “essential” who’ve had to continue working without pay (and in some cases actually cancel scheduled vacations). For these and the 380,000 workers on furlough, a promise of eventual back pay hardly feels like being “better off.”

You mean the stupid law that allows a president to shut down the government if he opts to throw a tantrum?
I see no evidence that either side is more or less stupid than the other. But since Trump has the upper hand in this situation, good leadership would dictate that he take the initiative in resolving it.

DRAIN THE SWAMP
One government employee estimates 85% of government employees are working to
1- waste time
2- stall so Trump does not get what he wants done
Trump is getting things done better with only the decision makers around. The dimocrats stall may result in Reduction in Force lay-offs.
