Here is some background & context about what that proposed Tennessee law was. Tyre Nichols was a black man who was stopped by police for speeding or reckless driving. It ended up that the BLACK officers beat him during this stop. He died.
The Memphis city council passed an ordinance that the police couldn't stop people for minor infractions, such as expired tags, license plate lights burned out and others. I'm not sure if speeding or reckless driving was covered. The TN legislators proposed this bill to prevent cities from overriding state law. That is what this is about.
They were not targeting one family.
