Santa Anita Shuts Down

Santa Anita to shut down to do extensive testing to determine the safety of the track after another break down of a 4 year old filly making that 21 fatalities.
I wonder if they left the old base of Asphalt under the track from the Cushion track, that never drained properly and when it rained the surface would wash away in areas.

Were they all on track deaths?

Both racing and Training break downs in the last 2 months. I believe most were on the main track. They show 4 on the Turf. We have got 20 inch of rain this winter and they are using the Turf a bit more than in the past when they have had rain. The main track is getting sealed alot.

I heard through the "he said, she said" that we're looking at 3 weeks until racing resumes.

I'm surprised that they haven't announced a temporary move to Los Alamitos.

They are shooting to reopen March 23. So there isn't enough time for everyone to move down and back.

Was the Big 'Cap supposed to be tomorrow? That usually happens about now, doesn't it?

from face book "homeless handicappers":
Santa Anita is tentatively scheduled to reopen its main track for light training Monday and could resume racing on March 21-22 as an investigation continues into the cause of 21 equine fatalities since late December

Open for training now... https://www.cnn.com/2019/03/08/us/sa...ges/index.html

That show with Dustin Hoffman was filmed at SA, think they ended the series prematurely when a horse died years ago.
