Both the Oaks and the Derby certainly had some inexplicable runs from the favorites. While both lost its not like a trip or tough circumstances caused it, they never really lifted a hoof.

More horses for the Derby, but unlike last week it does not feel like those top two will be major players.

War of Will got hurt out of the gate and you have to think Serengeti Empress had to bleed or something. She was too bad to be true.

Weird day there today. Even Bricks and Mortar didn’t seem like he was traveling very well even though he won.

100 Points to the Winner . . .

Unfortunate turn of events for the favorite War of Will in this one, hope he comes out of it well. The percentages noted by ubercapper hold; will Omaha Beach, another son of War Front, be next? Nice piece of race ridin’ by Saez to get By My Standards through that gap one furlong out, horse was on the rail most of the way, nevertheless gets the 100 Derby Points vaulting him to the top of the Derby Leaderboard. Spinoff ran a good race w/Johnny V lettin’ loose that whip . . . looks like Pletcher gets a Derby gate - I expect this one to improve. At this point in time, Sueno has 28 points, 12th on the Leaderboard.

Time
23.63; 47.68; 1:11.54; 1:36.84; 1:49.53

Splits
23.63; 24.05; 23.86; 25.30; 12.69

Equibase scored the race a 96, tied for second lowest figure for the race since they started making figures in 1992.

The only good thing I see out of that race is more bang for my All Others future pool buck.

Equibase

I don't understand how this race can come up slow. They came home fast. Ran 2 seconds faster then the older horses did. Plus it was the 2nd fastest Louisiana Derby ever ran. Maybe neither one of these horses do anything in the future, but today they ran a very fast race for that race track.

109 Equibase. I’m guessing the clock wasn’t right. It makes no sense that majority of Louisiana Derby field would be faster than New Orleans Handicap.
