Alcock Arabian and Grays

Turns out that all modern gray T-Breds trace back to the Alcock Arabian.

Interesting that Federico Tesio, arguably the greatest breeder ever, considered the color gray as a sign of skin disease. He also believed that excessive racing changed a stallions DNA and made him a less valuable sire. Before Secretariat came along many still believed that a horse with white leg markings had fragile legs.

That goes to show that one should not blindly accept a great one's beliefs as they may have become great despite them and not because of them. Always be skeptical and rely on science rather than tradition based on what was once believed by someone who was successful.
