It's been 110+ plus in Arcadia for the last two days. It's probably better to rest Justify until it cools down here. If that means no Haskell, then so be it.

I've, not at any point, believed we were going to see him race again. I just haven't; too much money involved. And, in recent days Baffert's, "We'll let the horse tell us", wasn't sounding as chipper either. I think he knew all along. JMO

Another flash-in-the-pan and a what-could-have-been. We won't see him again. That is really too bad. Things like this just keep me less interested in watching the Triple Crown.

Every other sport is so driven by its superstars. Where would the NBA be if every LeBron James-level player retired when they stubbed their toe? Where would golf be without Tiger Woods' long run on top?

Horse racing, which has enough factors working against it anyway, also has to somehow get by without them. It's a sport without stars.

Imagine if the racing wasn't a mere dress rehearsal for the shed, and this year in the Classic there was going to be a showdown between Pharoah, Arrogate, and Justify. That's what the sport needs. Stars for people to root for and storylines for fans to follow.

First J was gaining weight, then we hear he lost weight, then we hear he is doing great, then we hear he is not doing great. Now he has a filling in his ankle.

I put the sound off whenever Baffert speaks. blah blah blah

We do have stars. Unfortunately, in the U.S. the trainers have become the superstars and not the horses.

Winx is running in August. Something to look forward to.

I hope they aren't looking for a face saving way to retire him. He has skeptics. The only way to silence them is to prove his quality on the track against older horses and put up a couple of big numbers doing it.

He's been taken out of training.

Bring on the next "big thing."

Kelso....remember when horses were horses?
Forego.

Arrogate and Justify together don't begin to compare with the great ones of the past. Enjoy 'em while you can, they won't be around for very long.

Scat daddies have been burning up the track. All you have to do is look at the world wide sire list. He,s a really easy horse to retire and jack up the stud fee.

Sad but true.

Brian Zipse has written a good piece at Horse Racing Nation about Justify and his place in history. Fine reading.
