I read (among other things) they're protesting horse deaths.

If that's the case, maybe they should have done a little research first.

Last time I ran stats - Golden Gate had the lowest breakdown rate of any track in California.

I’m not sure that engaging these people over Twitter is a bright idea, they’re not interested in a debate and tbh they have a point about breakdowns. The root of a breakdown is almost never ‘just a bad step’ that gets repeated ad nauseum

I prefer to use “gone amiss” but calling a breakdown in real time is always a judgement call. I’m not sure there’s a right or wrong answer. Some announcers choose to, or are told to, ignore such incidents.

I certainly don’t envy the announcers that have to call them, especially at the tracks that are filling low level claimers with sore horses. They see a lot of them
