I bash on NYRA but not for this. They hsve to card races that will draw fields.

I was referring to NYS, not NYRA. NYRA has the right to card any races they want over any surface. That was my point.

Maybe your coconut needs a little more ripening!

Post Positions in Belmont Turf Sprints

There's a real head scratcher in today's Bel 6th, would probably skip but it is in a contest. TP has an obvious firster in there but his numbers on turf are not quite as good. Will try to beat, I think with 12. Is that a good post? The 1 may also do some running but not sure about the rail either. Two Rudy rods and a Mott plus Lynch's other. Probably would pass normally but...

My POV:
Horses who can, run on the dirt.
Horses who can't, run on the turf.
Horses who can't run on the turf, run in turf sprints

NYRA uses the excuse that 7 1/2-furlong turf races at Aqueduct would be "unsafe" because they would start "too close to too tight a turn."

BULLHOCKEY!

7 1/2-furlong turf races at Aqueduct would start 617 feet into an 847-foot turn. 7 1/2-furlong turf races at the Fair Grounds, which have been run without complaint from anyone for decades (and indeed it is one of their most popular turf distances) feature a 480-foot run into an 814-foot turn.

And if 6-furlong races on the new outer turf course have limited availability at this meeting for some reason, 5-furlong races on the inner turf course could easily be run.

Why would anyone want to run a 7-1/2 furlong race on any surface?

Makes no sense at all why tracks card 7.5f races. Just card it for the extra 1/16th. Especially at one mile tracks, those run ups to the first turn kill the outside runners. GP turf is a prime example.

I can't imagine there's such a demand for a turf horse to run that exact distance.

Gulfstreams 7.5f turfs are really closer to 1m70yds-1 1/16m when true run-ups are figured in. One of the biggest jokes.

That Turf course at AQU looks pretty fast. 107.75 for 6F in the 6th. Thats the outer turf course ?

Thats 3 easy wire to wire jobs on the turf today. Haven't been following this meet too closely. Has the turf been this speed favoring from the beginning ?
