David Jacobson drop

Trainer David Jacobson entered Solver Prospector the other day for $40,000 after winninmg his last on 2/7 easily in a NW2...that was a little suspicious, but then he scratched and cut him down to $20,000 today...maybe he'll roll but I wouldn't want to be on the horse directly behind him.

The horse won got the 34k purse so they move on and the horse gets claimed. Sometimes if you think you can win the 20k and maybe get taken why not go for it they did and they were right.

Wouldn't the trainer really be "right" for dropping him sharply if the horse lost? If you have a horse that is worth more than you lose him for, is that a good thing? It is if he squeezed him dry for one last win, but this horse still looks capable of winning better purses than that one.

The last time I saw a drop like that, the horse went to the front and not surprisingly snapped a leg before running a half mile. And some fool claimed the euthanized animal.

Its a part of the claiming game you put your horse in a race where you think he can win, if the owner is ok with it then its a no-brainer. It is a shame when someone does claim a lame horse we wont claim off of Pletcher or several other "top" trainers, not saying they have any lame horses its just the track record of horses claimed from these few trainers have a low percentage of winning afterward or staying fit.

Jacobson 9yo horse Cherokee Artist ran today (Nov 28, 2014) dropping off a good second for 40 down to 20 and you're right, you didn't want to be behind him.

RIP old warrior.

Yep, 13 time winner of over 900k apparently doesn't deserve time to get on form or retired, just jam him in for 20k and hope somebody takes him off your hands.

He just wants to win the trainer title year in and year out. Hes got enough money that it doesn't matter if it loses horses for less than he paid.

He's usually better than this, he usually puts his broken down horses on a van and sends them to minor tracks to end their lives, i guess dumping grounds Monmouth and Suffolk aren't running now so what was he to do?

Actually, I think it is all about money, trying to get every last nickel he can out of a horse.

You're either better than this or you're not better than this. There is no middle ground.

My point was that he usually finds a way to send the broken down ones to the racing equivalent of siberia so nobody is the wiser.
