Overhead of the BC Classic
http://www.hrtv.com/videos//2014-bre...-classic-bump/
I found this posted on Derby Trails. It's a top view of the start of the race.
From the head on views of the start of the Classic it looked like Bayern crashed into the horses next to him.
If NBC had shown this view, in my opinion, their decision would have been less controversial.
In an earlier thread I wrote that Bayern and Toast of New York should have been taken down. I now disagree with myself.
Does this change your opinion of the race?

Looks like the start of every horse race from that view.

I didn't see anything there that changed my opinion other than it looked less violent overhead because you can't see the riders reacting.
He broke in, bumped Shared Belief, SB turned a tad sideways, and caused Smith and other riders to steady to avoid it becoming even worse.
Then you draw a conclusion.

There is a big difference between the front shot and the overview in my opinion. From the front shot, it looked like Bayern crashed into Shared Belief and made contact but from the aerial view Bayern zoomed right passed Shared Belief and SB overreacted.

I still see contact in the slow downed version, but it was always clear that Smith was also steadying to avoid it being worse.

It would have helped if the aerial view was directly above the track and not at a slight angle. Kind of compare it like the turf course cameras don't give you a great head on view when they are running with the rails extended out past half the course..Anyway, it was an interesting view..

Doesn't change my opinion at all, just confirms my original, multiple reviews of the race video, that this kind of stuff happens all the time. One thing that this overhead does make clear, if you quickly start and stop the video in the slomo, at about one length out of the gate, Bayern's body is pointed left about 30 degrees, but the right rein is tight and clearly has the horse's head pulled to point straight down the track. I had contended that the jockey did make a serious attempt to avoid contact with SB (others said the rein was loose and no serious attempt to avoid contact was made by the jockey). This video seems to further confirm that the jockey did NOT intentionally interfere with SB (as some incorrectly argued).

All this angle does is again reprove that he took Shared Belief's shot at winning and wiped it out in one stride. Period.

Correct.
The fact that he ran on so well is a tribute to his heart.
Freaking win machine that one is....

I didn't bet Shared Belief. I hate the breeders cup. Only bet 2 BC races that day.
I was being a non biased objective observer.
