Pilot Who Hitched a Ride Saved Lion Air 737 Day Before Deadly Crash

By Alan Levin and Harry Suhartono | March 19, 2019, 4:33 PM PDT
Pilot Who Hitched a Ride Saved Lion Air 737 Day Before Deadly Crash:
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...-later-crashed

Quote:
As the Lion Air crew fought to control their diving Boeing Co. 737 Max 8, they got help from an unexpected source: an off-duty pilot who happened to be riding in the cockpit.

That extra pilot, who was seated in the cockpit jumpseat, correctly diagnosed the problem and told the crew how to disable a malfunctioning flight-control system and save the plane, according to two people familiar with Indonesia’s investigation.

The next day, under command of a different crew facing what investigators said was an identical malfunction, the jetliner crashed into the Java Sea killing all 189 aboard.

Unbelievable.

The co-pilot in the latest crash had 200 hours of flying experience. In this country you need not even apply with under 5000.
Both crashes due to a faulty sensor. Boeing by now surely has a fix-kit that can be installed in less than an hour. There's no fix for stupid. Poor or no training for simple issues is pretty damn stupid. After the Lion Air crash a service bulletin was issued by Boeing which meant a fix was in the works. The Indonesian airline claims they either didn't get it or it was disregarded. Probably because it was in English.
Bottom line is all Max8 jets are grounded and millions will be lost over a couple of morons that shouldn't be pilots of anything, let alone a commercial jet.
You fly 3rd world airlines..you get 3rd world service...top to bottom. I'd walk first.

Inevitable

I knew it was only a matter of time before the racist aviation experts
would start taking a shot at foreign pilots.

"You wouldn't catch me dead flying with those clowns"
"They probably didn't get any training in English"
blah, blah, frickin blah.......

Of course, there are those who think theirs is the only language worth speaking.
It's hard to fathom that type of ignorance, but it exists.

Boeing has a responsibility to ensure adequate training is provided
in every language to those they sell billions of $ of aircraft to.
An investigation is underway looking at how the FAA handled this
situation. One thing is certain - a lot of money was on the line.

Boeing offers a optional safety feature on those particular planes, available at additional cost. The planes that have had problems did not have that feature.

You really are becoming a pain in the ass with your racist comments around here.

200 freaking hours - THAT alone is reason not trust a foreign airline. No one but a moron or shit holl country would allow such an inexperienced person fly a commercial plane.

Try to grow up.

So not buying the options and not training your pilots is not the problem here, American racism is the problem!

Or American capitalist greed. By making a safety feature optional at additional cost, Boeing now has new PR problems regarding the safety of its planes.

All will be revealed, hopefully, as a result of the upcoming investigation. Look for the usual slap on the wrist for bedmates FAA and Boeing as it will be revealed that the FAA improperly certified flight control systems at Boeing's say so.

By turning a meaningful thread into a racist one makes[B]you[B] the racist.
English is universal in commercial aviation worldwide. Only you would expect Boeing to send its bulletins in 100+ languages.
You, like most far-left clueless liberals, take anything crossing your path you don't understand and label it racist. That way you think you can be involved in the conversation.
