What an egregious error. So embarrassing.

http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-raci...horse-rankings

Gentlemen, something's terribly wrong.

World's top race horse ranking is released.

LIAM'S MAP AIN'T AT THE TOP OF THE LIST!

NEITHER'S HONOR CODE!

IT'S STILL, ... AMERICAN PHAROAH.

Lord, who's in charge of this stuff? ... DAMN, I reckon!

Somebody send the memo to SteveR.

He's in the corner crunching numbers, still not particularly liking AP, and headed for the poor house.

You guys & gals, I'm ready to jump back in. I was about two posts away of changing the opinions of those two other guys in that other thread before being cut-off in the final stretch.

Who is Golden Horn?

Who cares what some self-appointed person declares as "best"?

C'mon Fager, does my post really sound, to you, like I'm sweatin' this stuff???

Tom, do somethin' with these too serious folk.

I know unto my soul, a sock's got a better sense of humor...

I miss PA, he's been MIA for days.

Some aren't kidding. See the other thread on the same subject. Otherwise don't fret as I'm not lacking in humor as much as my post may've seemed.

He hasn't quite been compared to Frankel yet, but they're close.

You are misinterpreting my position on American Pharoah. He was, in fact, one of my three published top picks in the Derby. However, thanks to my advanced age I have been able to see virtually every champion since Native Dancer and IMO American Pharoah has not yet demonstrated to me that he belongs anywhere among the true elites. I guess he has a couple of more chances to prove it. Also, I've been doing figures for almost 35 years using a consistent methodology and thus far he doesn't come close to anything extraordinary. That, too, could change in the next couple of races.

As good as some may believe American Pharoah is, essentially every prominent American figure maker seems to agree with me. Ragozin, whose figures may be the most respected in the industry by the professionals, gave his TC races 4-, 6" and 4-, hardly the stuff of "greatness". Apparently the Europeans are more enamored with him, although I did see a recent quote from someone at Timeform comparing American Pharoah favorably with Frankel, a comparison I found about as dumb as any I've seen. And yes, speed does matter because Thoroughbred breeders have been focusing on it for three centuries and it sure seems to be important in human track events. Why shouldn't it be equally important in Thoroughbred racing? Horse players may only care who wins. Others may rely more on physics to make their evaluations.

Finally, his pedigree is pretty weak, so there's that (which also may be irrelevant to horse players).

Thanks. You seem familiar with his background. I'm unfamiliar with outside U.S. racing and their importance.

Is there a site for viewing European racing?

I think you were the one who provided to me HK links.

Do you think he'll be in the BC and which distance (T or D)?

http://www.horseracingnation.com/horse/Golden_Horn_1

I think they're targeting the Prix de L'Arc in early Oct.
There has been no mention of the BC as yet, but it has to be unlikely.
Next to no chance they would consider dirt in the BC Classic, anyway.
Seems to be a turf horse, and a very good one.
John Gosden always like shipping over here, but I doubt the owner will.

I was wrong about him winning at Ascot.
He won the Eclipse Stakes at Sandown last time out.
I think he may run in the Juddmonte at York soon,
and there's a chance he would face Aidan O'Brien's good horse, Gleneagles.
Fingers crossed - that would be a marquee matchup over there.

I watch pretty much any UK/Irish track I want on US ADWs.
They show replays and all the major tracks there.
French racing was getting good coverage on xpressbet.com
I haven't been following it much lately, though.
Betting-wise, it's not great - takeout is too steep for my liking.
Longshots are occasionally good value, but the pools are small.

As far as keeping up on their racing, these are a few sites I would recommend: racingpost.com sportinglife.com and attheraces.com
I'm sure there are other sites that are good - others may chime in.

Enjoy!

It's really bizarre comparing dirt and turf horses that will never face each other. American Pharoah is best on dirt, but I wouldn't hesitate to call Golden Horn better on turf considering his record and competition.

More Golden Horn

He's definitely a very nice colt.
Visually, though, he's no Frankel.
He will, also, have to be at his best to beat Treve in the Arc.
