While it's tough to argue with the stats provided, it's tough to agree that these are the best trainers.

Observer... you are correct.

I should have titled Trainers with the Best Stats in the last three years. Of course, we take into account not only win percentage, but in-the-money percentage, field size, closing odds and finish position.

David Wells isn't anywhere close to minimum 300 starters

He has started only 152 horses in the three-year window time frame as noted above. Great stats, but nowhere close to the minimum.

Similar example would be minimum number of at bats to win the major league batting title.

David Wells and Steph Beattie are basically the same thing.

They are her horses running under his name.

Beattie/Wells

Any idea why they switch their names back and forth so often, on the same horses?

I would think the reason for that is because it's a good way to get a race to go.

Not sure I follow. I’ve seen them both in the same races before which I think is what you mean but what I’m talking about is when a horse will be in her name at Pen and switch to his when it starts at CT and vice versa. I think I've also seen them switch names (on the same horse) for no apparent reason while running at the same track. They obviously both have a trainer’s license at both tracks so I don’t get it. It is also often apparent that neither one of them is serving days so I can't figure a reason for it but I've seen it a lot in the past. Could it be about stalls, or something like that??
