Oaklawn Track Announcer 2020
Anyone know who Oaklawn's track announcer might be next season?
I've inquired via email but, so far, no response.
IIRC Stauffer's contract was three years (expired 2019). Given the number of FUBARS can't imagine they would renew.

Reason: correct typo in title

I can definitely tell you who it was in 2010.

I do realize that Vic circa 2019 isn't quite the same as Vic circa 2004 was. (Vic at Hollywood Park was one of the best announcers I have ever heard.)
But even if Vic has lost a half a step, he can still deliver a dramatic call and, seriously, who are they going to get who is better?
It's tough for them to attract an A-list announcer because it's only a few months a year. They are actually very lucky to have Vic.

They run four months now, almost at least, and run full race weeks. I can't answer who they could get nor do I really care much about announcers any longer. I tend to turn down the call and focus on the horses myself, helps with notes to not be distracted. I tried watching races at Keeneland with the sound this meet and it was like the announcer and I were watching different races.

I don't care that much about announcers either. I do hear them, because I attend the races live. And Vic was really great at Hollywood Park- best announcer the track ever had. But if the PA system stinks or goes out, it doesn't affect me at all.
But right now I am in Hong Kong and will be attending the races at Happy Valley tomorrow night. I won't understand a word of the calls but will still enjoy the sport immensely.

I attended a race card in Grants Pass! I don't remember the announcing.

It's Vic again, unfortunately.

I think the highlighted above is true of a lot of us.
Definition by example of a left-handed compliment. Good job!

It was intended as an actual compliment. Vic is still an A-list announcer despite having lost a bit of zip off his fastball. He still delivers dramatic calls.
Oaklawn is, indeed, lucky to have him. If they replaced him, they would probably have someone who isn't as good.

I’m nowhere near as good as I was in 2004 either.........
But that don’t mean I’m not pretty good....
