This is based on the last 1,095 calendar days (three years) from yesterday AND based on a minimum number of 300 starters

See attached. The ones that have a slightly higher win percentage are probably ice cold as our data is weighted for "what have you done for me lately" is more important than "what have you done for me in the past."

One of the trainers on your list is Kevin Joy. If you look at Kevin Joy from May 18, 2004 to May 18, 2005 he had 599 starters with 103 winners. That's 17% and he was 40% ITM. Did Kevin Joy forget how to train horses? What was working for him during that period and why is it not working the last 3 years?

I wonder how many of those were booted home by Taylor Hole?
They used to do pretty well together @ Rock & Suffolk way back when...

Obviously, I am just reporting the facts and accurate stats. You probably have a database of your own, so perhaps you can verify the accuracy of the last three years.

Perhaps Kevin Joy lost a couple of his best owners. Maybe they died. Maybe they transferred their horses to a different trainer. Maybe he lost a couple of key assistants. Maybe he's physically not 100% and underwent some life changes (an operation, drugs, divorce). I actually have never heard of Kevin Joy. Whatever I just mentioned is speculation.

Perhaps someone more in the know about him knows the real story.

i could be wrong, but i believe he was training alot of those michael gill "claim and big drop" winners at ct during that time period. (?)

I used to keep up somewhat with the rulings at CT via the ARCI site. It wasn’t great but it beat nothing. Now the rulings are no longer available to the public. Go figure.

Anyway, if memory serves, Joy kept getting caught for the same thing over and over. I can’t remember what the drug was (a muscle relaxer, maybe?) but he kept getting these little 10 day “vacations” and then they started getting longer. I’m totally guessing here but my theory is that he finally got the “talking to” from the stews and was put on thin ice, so to speak. Hard to believe at one time he was vying for leading trainer at one of the meetings. And, as usual, how ever the races were really being won remains a mystery.

I saw the same thing happen with a much larger and more well known trainer on a different circuit. He had a much more serious offense and all but quit winning for almost an entire year and then came roaring back into the winners circle like he was all of a sudden off of parole or something.

What puzzles me is why some trainers get busted and fade into oblivion while others just keep right on winning.

From 2004 to 2005 it was Vernon Bush, Carlos Castro, and Al Cortez winning most of the races. Taylor hole has won more races for Kevin Joy than any other rider but those wins came at Suffolk and Rock between 1999 and 2002. Another rider that win races for him in Boston was Harry Vega.

It was 1 to 20 that John Candlin was on the list. It doesn't really mean he can't train, he just has a barnful of slow, homebred NY horses that can't run a lick.

I'd say the worst trainers are the ones that loses horses that then consistently improve by leaps and bounds. There are a few of those out there, that is for sure.
