If I remember I'll take some pictures of the beams tomorrow before the races.

Thanks for the info, I'll check it out, shouldn't be hard to spot.

Yes, I should think so.

Why not 1 1/8, or even 1 1/4 on the dirt? With the longer run to the clubhouse turn runners drawn outside would have a better chance. I like long route races on the dirt, and wish more of them were carded in this era of breeding short winded speed crazy sprinters. While they are at it, why not toss in a few at 1 3/16? After all, the Preakness is at this rare distance, so why not run a few for ouchy bottom level conditioned claimers?

1mi 1/8 races were referred to as "marathons" the other day on Aqueduct in 30. Going by that, I would call 1mi 1/4 races as "shipping!"

No, Trakus will not “fix” the problem because the timing methodology of the teletimer at present and the Trakus methodology is different. The teletimer is recording the horse’s time at predetermined points whereas Trakus is recording the horse’s time using a speed curve that runs through the predetermined points.
What Trakus will do and is now doing, give a more accurate recording of a horse’s running performance during the race with respect to time and distance travelled. Hence the “Sartinists” will have a better metric to calculate energy distribution.

But doesn't that fix the problem of interpreting the numbers etc? Guys who make figs would just start using the trakus info and everybody sings off the same sheet of music. Sounds like a fix to me.

Sorry for bumping an old thread but as someone who embarrisngly found out just yesterday how fracitonal and race points of call can be different, I've been browsing a few topics.
Just started wondering about this in terms of pace figures. Say in terms of Brisnet and its E1 rating, would it go from being a 4f measurement to a 4f70y measurement as you truly don't have the time right there?

It really depends on the track. Some have timing poles in place for the weird distances, others don't.

I believe that the bris figs are inflated at these distances , also turf marathons like 1 1/2 miles and 1 3/8 mile races always seem inflated.....don't know why

Tracks that run 1m70y will generally have small poles 40 yards inside the 13/16m, 9/16m, 5/16m and 1/16m poles; otherwise they will have discreet painted lines, usually red, on the top of the rail.
And the reason 1m40y and 1m70y exist is because going all the way from 6f to 1/16m is too wide a gap, and these tracks have too short a run to the turn and/or too tight turns to run two-turn mile races.

To my knowledge, only Atlantic City, Finger Lakes, Fair Grounds, and Tampa run 1 mile 40 yard races, with Tampa running more than the others. If I remember correctly, the Risen Star Stakes at Fair Grounds was run at 1-40 a few times.

Beat me to it!
We've had brief conversations about this over the years. Why? Just why is this necessary on dirt especially?
