basically the program looks at the product of various impact values for 7 key factors: 1) early speed - using quirin speed points on the 3 most recent "rateable" races, 2) overall speed - using beyer or bris speed figures, 3) jockey rating - top 5, rode horse before in a "good race", or neither, 4) recency - days away since horse's last "good race", 5) class - as determined by average earnings per start, 6) post position - in certain circumstances, and 7) condition - as measured by a stretch or quarter mile drive where applicable. from this a horse's value odds are calculated and then compared to the toteboard to find overlays. i think one could also compare the value odds to the morning line for a starting point in the search for overlays.
