Examples would be nice.
As far as I can see, Obama didn't start cracking the whip til we were approaching this election cycle.
OTOH, as a private citizen, Obama certainly has and had every right, just as the rest of us do, to speak out when we see a threat to our Democracy.
I remember when Obama handed over the reigns, he seemed to think at the time, that with all the responsibilities of the office, that Trump would become more moderate in light of some of the extremist policy positions he talked about during his campaign.
Instead, Trump became more extreme, and as for responsibilities, we got this:

I am an independent so I will vote for who I like in 2022.
I just wanted Trump out.
So in that respect you're right. 2022 will be "Trump- less".
If the never trumpers or lincoln project republicans put up a candidate who isn't cray-cray and craven, that would be good for you.
Except most won't forget who the ardent Trumpsters were. You'll see what I mean by that.......eventually.

You'll have a establishment conservative vs. Trumpist populist fight early on...
Problem is the former has a very very thin bench.
The GOP needs a realignment to win at the national level. Democrats can help foster that environment but ultimately Trumpism is a dead end. Populist movements never live long.
A 2024 drubbing again may change that calculus for the GOP.

Now he's switched and qualified it (after the 2020 gross error) to "national level."
Keep moving the goalpost. Eventually (like hcap), you'll get it right.

I know a lot of Republicans. None of them were ardent Trump supporters.
In the final analysis, it was just ethically, a bridge to far. Esp. when they noticed how off-the-rocker he is. I think he outdid himself with each passing day, esp. since the election.
It's been really interesting having a lot of old fashioned conservative Southern Democrat and Republican friends, and see them nodding to each other in agreement. THAT was a sight to behold.

I've been clear about that for years on here.
Winning the gerrymandering elections of 2010 and 2020 really helps them.
At the presidential level its becoming impossible for them.
The incumbent this cycle going to get blown out by 4-5% and the electoral map is still close... that was the last built in advantage the GOP had.
You can't gerrymander the EC.

I think people are really tired of extremists.
I've pretty much "had it" with the nutcase AOC adoration society as well as the nutcase Trump adoration society.
I grew up in the Eisenhower years and still identify with more moderate even-keeled, flexible types of people.
I''ve been pretty brutal with the Berniebots and AOC progressives. My debates with them are as passionate as my anti-Trump debates. Maybe even worse, actually.
I think I will indulge some other hobbies until it looks like maybe Americans will go back to working on things in a bipartisan manner.
Maybe they should include an anti-psychotic, anti-anxiety med in the newest covid-19 vaccine. Just kinda cool everyone's jets.

Hope you have some long-lasting hobbies, because this will never happen thanks to the last four years.

Is Brexit a populist movement?
If so, it would like to argue with you both, as it steadily gained steam for over a decade until it finally prevailed...

The Cold War Consensus is dead dude.
We're going back to the pre-New Deal Era type partisanship.
Its not enjoyable for us but it is what it is.
Progressive movements are also undefeated in these type of environments FWIW.

It hasn't even happened yet...
Brexit poll finds record majority of British people think leaving the EU was a mistake
Its sorta the problem with populism in general. Once they lose something to rail against they will always lose steam because by nature they're not inclusive.
