Haskell

First thing, will they run Saturday? Looking at 96 degrees 90% humidity.
Anyone heard anything?

Yea, are they going to run the Haskell card? in 100 degree heat index?
Will have 'center stage' w/ 'Toga and others out, but have to put the horses, jockey's and workers health first...

Saratoga has decided to run their Saturday Card on Sunday. Also get the Steeplechase race and Shuvee S.
Will be significantly cooler than Saturday, but still in heat-wave territory temps/heat-indexes...

If those are the actual numbers there is no way in hell they should run. That is a 130+ heat index I'd guess.

Pretty nice chart here...

https://www.weather.gov/ama/heatindex

Interesting thing is....you NEVER see Gulfstream close because of index....yes they are close to the water and get a breeze....but THERE ARE some days....it would be dangerous...

Red Board here....made mucho dinero on two different summit of speed years when CALI horses would ship into Fla. for that event...many big favorites....they couldn't handle the humidity...easy bet against....they no longer ship because of that very much in the summer....to Fla...

Back to original topic...50/50 on Monmouth....guessing they wait til Fri. night or even Sat. morning...

Would make a political joke now...about the forecast....but P.A. frowns upon that here...and rightly so...

There's an Excessive Heat Warning with a high of 96 and a heat index of 105 to 110 degrees predicted for Saturday for Oceanport, NJ. So very hot but slightly less so than further inland (we're predicted for 100 with heat index 110 to 115).

Not surprised they are running, though probably not the best move in the current political climate.

How much cooler in Saratoga on sunday vs sat. to run a card? Gulfstream, monmouth, lone star all go! Hose them down good after the race like the bettors!

I heard 130 to 150.
NBC will cover the one race only, 5-6pm (NBCSN) regardless. If it runs early to avoid the heat, they will tape and go on schedule, per Randy Moss with Steve Byk today.

Am I just imagining things or wasn’t the Haskell historically run on a Sunday?

They can’t run in this heat. Call it now, move the Sat card to Sunday.

Yes, it was usually Sunday. Sometims the Hambletonian would be the Saturday before. Was also usually in August.

14 races as well. Could go wrong.

Have often wondered how the horses do it down in Louisiana but horses are well acclimated to that
.
That day Big Brown ran at Belmont I believe was hottest day of the year. Belmont ran out of water for their customers.
