I've never seen anything like it so it was interesting to watch but no, I wouldn't bet on it but then I don't play the quarters or harness either.
Good luck with your survey.

Not only would I bet on it, I did bet on it at the Hippodrome Vincennes in Paris a couple years ago. There were two Montes races on the 8 race card I went to.
As an aside, the French don't put up with much BS. If a horse breaks, he's disqualified immediately. And they ain't catering to English-speaking people in their PP's or at their racing websites. (Unfortunately, most of my picks were losers in any language! )

Listening to the race caller, I was immediately reminded of this:

More Representative Race
This race is probably more representative than the initial sample. Also, since Europeans tend to race long distance races, 1 7/8 mile races are not uncommon, they tend to race for endurance instead of speed. In North America, it would likely be a faster flowing race as we tend to stick to the mile distance.
BYW, I love the Turtle Soup reference.

Thanks for Your Help
Thanks to those who took the time to answer the survey. I thought I'd share the results with everyone. Admittedly, it was a very small sample.
31.6% said they would play monte racing.
15.8% said they would occasionally play such races.
52.6% said they wouldn't wager on it.

That race was actually kind of neat. I'm not sure if I'd bet on it, it would be a whole different set of figures to look at, but I enjoyed watching it.
