brisnet.com Race Comment "churned"

In the BC Classic today the comment for #9 MAX PLAYER when he ran the Kentucky Derby in 2020 reads: "5w between; churned"

I watched the race, no clue what is meant by churned. What say you?

Same comment in DRF, I didn't realize they shared comments. Only instance of that word in all 12 of today's races.

In the context, I would say "held his ground". Didn't really gain or lose until midstretch.

This makes sense as it reflects what the horse did in the stretch in the Derby: didn't gain ground nor lose any. I think "flattened" is the equivalent term.

Thanks to all.

Over the two days of Breeders' Cup my wagering resulted in a $-0.011 ROI. Now that's the definition of CHURNED!!!!!!

I caught a tri and super in the same race and didn't get back enough to buy a 6 pack.
