Arc Winner Found In BC Classic?

http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-raci...-in-bc-classic

This sounds interesting and potentially exciting. Would love to see it. Not sure about her chances. You?

I know its a completely different ballgame, and Coolmore has had very limited success with this move, but I found it ironic that much of the initial reaction to this news was along the lines of "how could she possibly beat the best horse in the world?"

Isn't that basically what she did last year in the BC Turf?

As a horse racing fan, my view is the more the merrier in the Classic. Get them all in. Found, Songbird, whomever. I'd like to see the Classic become a classic test of best against best - and that's why I dislike how atomized the BC has become, because it works against matchups like Found v. California Chrome (or whatever).

Found has only won 6 times in 20 starts, has never raced on the dirt, and will be shipped thousands of miles after a long racing season abroad. And California Chrome has looked like a very, very good horse this year. Seems like an uphill fight to me. Others surely follow the Euro scene more than I do, however.

If she runs in the classic it will add some intrigue to this race. Have to think they believe she can if she does start. Tough race to be making her first start on dirt (I could be wrong I havent looked at the PPs to see if she ever run on dirt).

If she does run and does win, it will be one hell of an accomplishment.

Aiden O'Brien isn't gonna stick just anybody in this race.

Outside of the Poly Track BC at Santa Anita, O'Brien has fired Giant's Causeway and Declaration of War. Two big time horses that were both within a whisker of winning this thing.

If Found runs here, I'll be very interested in what price she'll offer. O'Brien is going to win this race at some point in time. I certainly won't be shocked if she wins if entered.

Arc winners have had a bad time of it when they ship in for the BrCup.
Most or all of them ran in the Turf instead of the Classic but it's a quick turnaround and a long trip. None have won.
Even more so when you consider Found ran in another race after the Arc and is still planning on making the BrCup.

I will bet against her in either race she chooses

Didn't she win the BC Turf last year after running in the Arc and Champion last year? Plus, she did it in 27 days last year, while this year she will have an extra week between the Champion and BC Turf.

The whole Arc-BC Turf thing is a bit dubious. Trempolino lost the BC Turf by a neck to Theatrical. Sakhee lost the BC Classic in a photo to Tiznow. Golden Horn hardly embarrassed himself last year ( though I would agree he hardly ran close to his best race ).

In general, I think the BC is a letdown because horses are trained to peak in the Arc. It feels like Found shows up every time ( she had a rough trip in last year's Arc, getting blocked in the stretch I believe ). However, whether or not a daughter of Galileo handles the dirt is an entirely different question. I hope they take a shot, as it adds flavor to the race, and makes the BC Turf easier for some friends of mine:-)

Not to be a killjoy, but I think Found would have no shot.
Why? Sadlers Wells.
With the exception of El Prado who sired a few good dirt horses
and of course the very good horse and sire Medalgia D'oro, I have not
seen any other of his sire line do anything major on dirt.
This includes Found's sire Galileo. The public foolishly sent him off at
5/2 in the 2001 Classic won by Tiznow.
Could she be the exception, maybe--but that is not the way to bet it.

Galileo was 3:1 in the Classic. I thought you were way off....but I was wrong.

Surprising

Considering that Found has run again since the Arc,
I find this decision pretty surprising.

That being said, she seems to thrive on racing.
The Arc win was her third race in around 6 weeks.

If she were my horse, I'd opt for a repeat in the Turf.
They must think she will handle the dirt, though.

There is little reason to doubt the judgement
of the connections.

The Arc then the Champion on 10/15. Now the Classic that's too much. A toss for me in the Classic.

Correct...they didn't flounder or run up the track, which does give credence to your opinion that it's another of racing's silly "rules", and for the most part I agree. Someone will pull off the Arc-BrCup double someday...but my point was the one you actually made (and I didn't): they are primed for the Arc and a short layoff plus a long trip to face another world class field is a tough accomplishment.
I'm taking a long look at Ulysses in the Turf, if he runs.

EDIT:
Odd thing I just saw...did Found finish in a 3 way dead heat for first three races ago at Leopardstown?...or is it some BRIS pp mistake? I noticed the 7th place horse Highland Reel lost by a neck

She won the BC Turf last year after running in the Arc then the Champion Stakes two weeks later. This year she will have one more week between Champion Stakes and the BC.

There are reasons to toss her, lack of dirt experience, pedigree etc. But schedule isn't one of them.
