Mike Smith sould be removed from Horse Racing Hall of Fame
For his ride in the 139th KyDerby
Look at the early fractions:
Fractional Times: 22.57 45.33 109.80 136.16 Final: 202.89
Unbeliveable
look at where the top 5 finishers were at the Qtr pole
1- 16
2- 15
3- 17
4- 12
5- 18
He destroyed ALOT of horses chances, like Verrazno
I can't belive Palace Malace didn't finish LAST

You do realize there are other sections to this board besides Selections, correct? This post doesn't belong here.
With that said, the fractions didn't surprise me at all, although I didn't think Smith would be setting them.
The final time was awfully slow for such fast fractions. With fractions like that, I would figure the final time should have been much closer to the two minute mark...this doesn't flatter Orb at all in my opinion...

It wasn't a dry track and ORB came from way back
you can't make an analysis of pace and finish times
as you would on a dry surface. Trainers looked at
the previous winners and gave the wrong instructions
to a few who should not have been on the front end.
BUT BUT i've watched Smith since he had the bug
at Oak & Aksarben .He's not stupid .very weird ride.

Good thing the new point system keeps out all the cheap speed sprinters. They would have made a mockery out of the Derby. The points sure changed the race for the better.

Blinkers on for a horse that had shown quite a bit of sprint speed in his first three races. Far from the first time that I've seen a horse run off in that situation. When a thousand pounds of horse really and truly decides to do something, a hundred pounds of jockey doesn't have much say in the matter.

That's what he blamed it on
He is the Jockey
His job is to control the horses speed
He failed badly

Classic blame-the-jockey stuff. Do you think thoroughbreds are like marionette puppets on strings?

then I suppose JV should also be removed from the HOF for failing to control Verrazano's speed?

With 5 in the race and if one were a conspiracy buff, it wouldn't take much convincing that someone were made Bugs Bunny.

Would the fact that he added blinkers and a classic veteran gate jock, while his M/L 4-1 near-fave was ice cold on the tote, and his Borel-ridden late charger was pounded to half his M/L from the word go factor into the conspiracy thinking?
