I wish you guys could see his operation. I was there on Monday. It’s like a circus. Bands playing outside the store, clowns walking around making balloon animals, free snacks and bottled water.
I bought some furniture and his same day delivery is a real guarantee. They delivered at 9:45p that night.
My wife was teasing Jim about spending so much time talking horse racing with me while he was in the middle of the Memorial Day sale.
Check this out from today

From ESPN.com website:
The Astros are in the World Series for the third time in five seasons and have some sportsbooks facing a significant liability. In late June, Houston furniture store owner Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale placed $3.35 million in bets on the Astros to win the World Series at around 10-1 odds.
McIngvale regularly uses the betting market to hedge promotions at his store. His largest reported bet on the Astros, $2 million at 10-1 at Caesars Sportsbook, would pay a net $20 million and be one of the largest payouts ever at a U.S. sportsbook.

I haven't read how much of this was a hedge on a promotion and how much was pure gambling profit, but as far as I'm concerned he can't win enough.

Here in Houston this seems to be the prevailing sentiment.
This man is beloved here in Houston.

there you go! he's a true gentleman, he takes care of homeless people, gives away mattresses to unfortunate veterans and feeds people for Thanksgiving and Christmas. the guy is amazing without one ounce of political agenda.

Not true. He's currently in a TV ad supporting the opponent to the Democrat County judge in Harris County, which includes Houston.

He's beloved outside of Texas as well.
When the floods hit Eastern Kentucky hard earlier this year, Mac launched a flood relief effort including putting a team on the ground, helping with debris removal and partnering with the Louisiana Cajun Navy to rescue people who were stranded.

Yep…..first time he’s ever done this sort of thing.
It’s a good ad. She is the lady who shut us all down and is for defunding the police.
I think that tipped the scales for Mack. So he came out against her

It was another hedge and iirc Mack doubled down on this particular promotion. Customers would get double the amount they paid for their furniture back if Houston won the WS.
Obviously Mack wasn’t the only one pulling really hard for the Astros! Imagine spending $10K on new furniture in January and 10 months later the store sends you a check for $20K!
Like you, I hope some of that $75 million was gambling profit for Mack.

Speculation is (on local radio he says it’s too early to do the math) that he is going to profit 30 million.
Btw, he says 20% of those getting free furniture take a store credit for the future.
