Acting White? Peer pressure.......?

Sometimes I just don't get it.

This floors me.

Maybe this is a testament to just how out of touch I am with todays youth.....but I can't believe this.............

This has been going on for decades. Black kids who study are accused of acting white, and it is especially brutal if they actually attempt to speak correct English -- that's really white...

I don't think it's a color thing as much as it a loser thing. Nothing makes a loser look as bad as someone who comes along and does what a loser has been telling himself can't be done. When someone pulls himself up, he makes others look bad. They compensate by rationalizing that HE must be somehow bad - it couldn't be them. You see it everyday.

From the Toronto Star:

What a few black leaders have picked up on is Obama's impatience with some African-American parents. "Children can't achieve," Obama said in his keynote address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention (DNC) that first brought him to national attention, "unless we raise their expectations and turn off the television sets and eradicate the slander that says a black youth with a book is acting white."
