June 6, 1968

As we walked into the school build that morning, most of us heard for the first time that Bobby Kennedy had been shot overnight and was in critical condition in the hospital.

Back then, no tweets, no internet, no cable news.
News traveled slowly, but lost none of it cruelty in transit.

We were allowed to go the the multi-purpose room (a theater seating like arrangement) during study halls and free periods that day to watch TV coverage.

The room was packed all day.

We stayed on until the final word came down.
Another Kennedy was dead.

With him, went a lot of the dreams of a generation.
We came to school as high school students that morning and went home a hell of a lot older.

The vacuum he left on the campaign trail was never filled and no doubt led to the violence in Chicago that summer.

That day kind of was the dividing line between childhood expectations and adult realities. RFK opened many of our eyes to the real world and the s*hole much of the country really was. And our war with no end raging in Vietnam. But he offered hope and solutions as well.

Now he was gone, the dreams were over, the problems still festering, but now no solutions were there. No one stepped up to the plate to fill his shoes.
We were on our own, and confusion and chaos replaced security and optimism.

Since those days, a lot of politicians on both sides have talked the same talk, but I never believed any of them like RFK. I think he really meant what he said. He walked the walk as well.

We later learned that he was still only a man, with faults, and he made mistakes, he was not really a saint, but that day, in 1968......he was.
Had he gone of win the presidency, no telling where we would be today.

Certainly, in a much better place than we are now.

I figured there would be more coverage about it on TV on the 50th anniversary. I remember the incident well as I lived in Southern California then and he was assassinated in Los Angeles, so we probably got quicker and more thorough coverage than most of the country. I was 7 and pulled from school a few weeks early as we were moving, I heard it on the radio. I do think that could have changed history as Kennedy might have over taken Humphrey who was close to Nixon in the popular vote.

A surprising sentiment from the guy who wrote this after Bobby's grandson's SOTU response speech:

Disgusting.
The family that DID rig an election for JFK.
The family that chickened out on the Bay of Pigs and left those people to die.

The most perverted bunch of losers in our history.

I find it strange that this thread was put up by an obvious Republican and the first response was by the same and both were positive. Considering that you post a negative response. I must be really dumb, but I have it all figured out finally.

Liberals wait till someone walks the point and sit in the background like cowards do and then complain about what the person who put it all out there did.

I was posting about the impact of the assassination on us at the time
But thanks for polluting a tribute thread on the 50th anniversary of his murder.
At least the right respects the man.

Probably 95% of Dan's post over the years have been negative. So when you see Dan's posted something, we pretty much know what to expect.
My guess is Dan is not a happy man.

Since you have no clue, i will explain.

Poppa Kennedy bought the election for JFK, not RFK.
JFK was the drugged out loser with a Dr Feelgood at his side 24/7, not RFK.
JFK broke his promise and allowed the Bay of Pig masacre, not RFK.

JFK hestited on Civil Rights because he needed the white vote, not RFK (who carried 90% of the Black vote in some primaries).

JFK used the SS to keep Jackie away from the WH pool when was sober long enough to F*** anything in a skirt.

It was RFK who calmed the Black community in Indiana the night MLK was murdered so that while riots broke out in over 100 citers, the streets where he spoke remained quiet.

What the HELL is your problem dude - you just want to keep on with your childish ranting in this thread. You have no class act like a first grader.

I take that back - I know first graders who would never act like you do.

I'm not embarrassed by it.
I explained what I meant by the post, but your mind was far too closed to understand it - not at all uncommon for you.
YOU are an embarrassment to the thread, however. Try acting like an adult.
Maybe you can use a lifeline for help.
