NY METS

POLL

What are chances Mets are out of 1st Place by The All Star Game ?????

Talk has been for months that they need a hitter after Alonso....

Escobar has done squat all year but was no concern with Mets leading by 8-9-10

games....

Its a different story now....

The Mets choked last night and bet on them as an underdog thinking they would beat the Brewers (they were showing a lot of bad stats for the Brewers) but I was wrong and they lost 10-2

The only team they really need to worry about right now are the defending champs which are the Braves I mean you can also say the Phillies and marlins but they are 8.5 and 11.5 back of 1st place and no worrying about the Nats 18.5 games back of the division

I would like to see the Mets still be in 1st place by the All-Star game as they look to have a somewhat easy schedule meanwhile for the Braves it's a so-so schedule to the ASG with playing the Dodgers Giants Cubs and Cardinals but then playing the marlins Nationals Reds Phillies during that stretch

See what happens I love the game of baseball but it always bites back when I make a prediction here well if keeping track basically all sports lol

Looking at their stats:
https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/ny-mets/

New York Mets
1st NL East 41-23

Offense --
Batting Avg 1st .263
Runs Scored 1st 322

Defense --
ERA 14th 3.87
WHIP 9th 1.22

At 1st in the NL in both batting avg and runs scored their offense is producing.

Imo, what the Mets could really use is some pitching.

All Star is 29 games from now. In their previous 29 games, Atlanta has performed at 4.4 WAR better than Mets, cumulative hitting and pitching.
Mets haven't lost more than 2 in a row in that stretch, and only to SF, LAD, SD.

In that group, only held to 2 runs or less in a loss by Gonsolin/Anderson (LAD) and Darvish/Manaea (SD). Of winning teams, they play MIL tonight, 4 with HOU (2 home and away) and a huge penultimate 3 game series in ATL before the break, which very well could decide their position at the All Star Game.

I know.

Imo, going to be awhile before both guys get back to 100%.

Scherzer is 37 years old.

DeGrom, at 33, is a little younger. But he averaged more than 200 innings pitched during 2017-2018-2019, followed by just 92 innings pitched last year, and none so far this year.

That said, if both guys can get healthy in the second half I think the Mets can compete.

Well ...

Following up here....

Braves did make it to 1/2 game but fell apart vs crappy teams and Mets holding their own...

Scherzer came back on top of his game....

DeGrom pitches tonight....

Lets see if he makes it thru 2 -3 starts before my verdict is in...

( I am skeptical that he lost some but...)
