I noticed that the NY Post published an article about Lauer, with excerpts from a Village Voice article from 2008. It was based on a celebrity Friar's Club Roast of Lauer. Other media outlets picked up the article and reprinted some of the jokes that were made by Lauer and others at the roast. The Friar's Club Roasts are supposed to be private but the reporter from the Voice jotted down some stuff. Now the press is using the dirty jokes from the roast as supposed proof that Lauer really is a degenerate.
Many famous media types were there and made jokes, including Martha Stewart, Katie Couric, and, several big entertainers were there. The Friar's Club Roasts are big events. The jokes are filthy and the roasters often make fun of themselves as well.
It's so unfair and stupid to use this event against Lauer. The Friar's Club Roasts are what they are and have been for many decades. If you are easily offended, you don't go to a Friar's Club Roast. Women were allowed in after the club was sued for sexual discrimination in 1988.
I read the article and I thought that some of the jokes were very funny, if you like that kind of stuff.
Martha Stewart called Lauer "The C--k of the Rock". According to the NY Post, that's proof that he's a bad guy. So ridiculous.
Joe Scarborough mentioned the roast on Morning Joe and said that he was there but "left early because I felt uncomfortable." What a wimp. Again, you don't go to a Friar's Club roast if you can't deal with risque humor.

Roasts used to good humor and fun times.
Lately, the humor has given way to the pride of who can be raunchiest.
Much like SNL has replaced humor with political bias.
But to use anything there is ridiculous.

The Friar's Club was always dirty, though, going back to 1950. The club was private and men's only. The first person to be roasted there was famed comedian Joe E. Lewis. Frank Sinatra played him in a biopic.
My father was roasted by the Flushing NY Rotary Club years ago when he received the Rotary Club's highest honor for his charity work over the years. It was a black tie affair. Nothing too dirty but they did make fun of him, LOL. I like the idea of a Roast, which is to take someone who's very accomplished and give them a little humility. One of the biggest mistakes we can make in life is taking ourselves too seriously.
