Delusions of Grandeur

Quote:
delusions of grandeur - a delusion (common in paranoia) that you are much greater and more powerful and influential than you really are

delusion, psychotic belief - (psychology) an erroneous belief that is held in the face of evidence to the contrary
megalomania - a psychological state characterized by delusions of grandeur
Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Cup (HK$20m - US$2.5m - Gr.1 - 2000m)

Quote:
Hong Kong's richest race and Eagle Mountain is expected to return to the scene of his victory a year ago. Here he is likely to encounter another international Sha Tin specialist, Presvis who captured the Audemars Piguet QEII Cup at this distance in April for Luca Cumani.

Mine That Bird is the first Kentucky Derby winner to become an entrant for Hong Kong, while Gio Ponti is officially the best turf performer in America. Vision D'Etat has won the French Derby and the Prince Of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot to mark himself out as among the European elite at this trip. Dream Journey, meanwhile, is Japan's highest-ranked thoroughbred and is also tipped for an appearance in Hong Kong's richest race.
Can we play connect the dots? Is Chip Woolley taking too many pain killers to even nominate MTB to this race?

Java, do we know if this is actually Woolley's idea or he is simply acquiescing to the whims of owners Allen and Blach? If so it wouldn't be the first time I've seen owners with a once in a lifetime horse (for them) mismanage the horse along with the passive complicity of a small barn trainer. I have to wonder how much input Woolley actually has with the owners of Double Eagle Ranch when it comes to mapping out MTB's campaigns. Personally, I would have preferred to have seen MTB take a shot in the Woodward, provided his throat was sufficiently healed, rather than making that ceremonial appearance at Ruidoso.

I wish I had some kind of inside information on this story but I certainly don't. I have no idea who is calling the shots but this story was a complete shock based on the Goodwood and his plans for the BC Classic. I know they went for the appearence fee in the WV Derby so I have no idea what they might have gotten to go to Hong Kong. Something seems very fishy to enter him there before the BC is set.

Just because he holds an entry doesn't mean he is going to run. I would think that the invitation was extended by HKJC, and the connections said "maybe". I seriously doubt Wooley was the one who initiated this.
It wouldn't surprise me if the HKJC offered to pay his way over. Having a KY Derby in the field looks good on paper, raises the international profile, esp among American racing fans who by and large are oblivious to the big HK races.
Still doubt he will go though, just wishful thinking on the part of the HKJC.

Agreed...me thinks Chip Woolley has no choice with these owners...and I would bet if he told thre truth...he'd say MTB going over there is ridiculous!

If MTB comes out of the BC healthy and the Hong Kong Jockey Club is paying all expenses why would you not go over?

Good point...as long as they try MTB on turf first...and see what the field will be...they sure don't wanna go over there, even if it's all expenses paid...and finish up the track!

They might not know MTB, but they definitely know the Kentucky Derby.

Chip wants to become famous for being a Ky Derby winning trainer, he wants to keep his horse and himself in the spotlight. that might lead to more owners wanting to give him horses in the future. can't hurt business to stay in the limelight.

Gee, nobody said that about Mike Lecesse when Tin Cup Chalice was invited to Japan. Wonderful horse, another gelding. Came in 13th of 16th.

MTB is a gelding, his future is to earn his keep by racing.

Why not admire a sound horse, who dances every dance?????

This is delusions of grandeur?

Instead, go ahead and admire the bluebloods who barely made it to----or thru---- Triple Crown season, without being retired, injured, or fading into oblvion because they can't be racehorses.

With all the *stars* busy ducking each other and races, we have to beat up on MTB who runs in them all, and call that delusional? (probably same people who talk about "what's good for racing". )

Yeah, I guess it's delusional not to stay in your barn and be a hothouse flower, or not continue to race the same 6 horses for the rest of your life.

P.S. I may need to revive my list of retired / injured from the TC trail and post it.

Tell me about them. WHERE ARE THEY?

they are not being invited to japan, because they're not even racing anymore.
