Shane has matured into a thoughtful and virtuous man of whom I am beyond proud. He has an exemplary work ethic, much desires to serve others, and finds strength in a God his father has never sought or even for certain believed in.

To be sure, adulthood has brought struggles. Shane still suffers (less frequently these days) bouts of acute anxiety and can obsess over small things. Also, his failure to make friends literally shatters my heart. My friend, there EXISTS no hell to rival having a lonely child. But he fills his free time with intellectual pursuits that feed an insatiable curiosity, and we have our monster movies. Also, Shane does drive, holds a job, and relishes interaction with co-workers.

As, I suspect, are many young adults, Shane is a work in progress.

Thanks very much for asking.

From Autism Speaks:

1 in 36 children in the U.S. have autism

Something must have changed, I do not recall meeting anyone with autism till High School and as I previously mentioned our school was the only one in the district that took the special needs kids. Of course non gang related mass shootings are through the roof and used to also be rare. I think the suicide rate for people under 21 is double what it was back in the day. You would think some group of "experts" would figure out what the hell is going on.
