Bottom line
The rule won't change.
Whether you think it's a good rule, or not, it will be in place 3 weeks from now.
Just another hoop for CC to jump through.
Another unsuccessful TC attempt on the cards........

As long as it doesn't have a battery in it.

"Good for them," O'Neill said of connections that own California Chrome. "It's such a small piece of equipment and it's in the best interest of the horse. For them not to allow it, it's silly."
O'Neill will have three horses running on the undercard at Belmont on June 7, including Goldencents in the Met Mile, and he said he will make a request to allow his horses to wear them that day.
"Nasal strip or none, I don't think there's a better 3-year-old old on the face of the earth," O'Neill said of California Chrome. "He's got speed, stamina and class. Nothing bothers him."

What a great opportunity for the peeps at BreatheRight (human nasal strips) to put up 1MM purse for California Chrome to run at the time the Belmont is to run.

Copied and pasted from drf:
Quote:
California Chrome has now won six straight races, all with jockey Victor Espinoza and all while using a Flair nasal strip, whose use was denied for I’ll Have Another two years ago by Belmont Park stewards when he was scheduled to bid for the Triple Crown before being scratched with a career-ending injury. It is not a state board rule or even a Belmont Park house rule. It’s solely up to the stewards’ discretion.
Sherman said he hoped California Chrome would be able to use the nasal strip.
“That’s a bogus type of thing,” he said when informed about the policy in New York. “All over the country, they let you run with it. Why wouldn’t they in New York?”
Sherman said Perry Martin, who co-owns California Chrome with Steve Coburn, first suggested using the nasal strip. He said Martin might go so far as to withdraw the colt from the Belmont if the policy was still in place.

Has there ever been a specific reason given why nasal strips are not allowed?

It's a stupid rule (per the stewards), but they aren't going to skip the Belmont over a nasal strip. If they do, the DAP moniker will be well earned.

He's right about that. I had three of them going including CC.......When I saw the other two at the gate.....I knew SI was shot. One look at that horse he's a cool one, no doubt. A combination of talent and racing smarts. Trained like a hero and the rider handles him perfectly so far. The "who doubts him thread is dumb." How can you possibly doubt this animal now? The only thing that beats him is health, racing luck or the sand here. So far he's had these over a barrel and you could see at the gate yesterday, including right after it opened. The horse was placed and rated so easily. Best race yet!

Chrome Will not get in the way of their billions
Another thing to consider here Genting and their power they wield with the control of the Cuomo administration. There is nothing that Genting would like better than to eliminate racing in New York and their paid proxy Cuomo will do whatever he can do to serve his patron and help them deliver their ends of large Casinos at both Aqueduct and Belmont with no racing to subsidize.
With the authority in New York being financially bound to a power that wants to eliminate racing there will be pressure to destroy the Belmont Stakes and do what they can to capitalize on this "nasal strip" crisis and make sure California Chrome does not run. A popular Belmont Stakes is a disaster for Cuomo and Genting. Look for the NYSRWB and all authority controlled by Albany to mandate that nasal strips are banned and look for further ways to harass and inconvenience Chrome and his connections at every point.

CC runs
Anyone who thinks that CC won't run in the Belmont due to this nasal strip issue is way off the mark.
He'll run - strips, or no strips.

The whole nasal strip deal is much ado about nothing.
Trainer Sherman is going to try and lobby the powers to be in NY to allow it because CC wears one.
If they say Yes, CC wears one.
If they say No, CC runs anyway.
There is no way in the world this horse skips the Belmont because he can't wear a nasal strip.
A nasal strip will have nothing to do with CC performance in the Belmont.

Not arguing, but if CC loses and he's not allowed to wear it…it will become nasalstrip-gate.

Not sure that these owners are like most of the rest. One stayed home on Preakness Day for a reason that would have not kept others away. If the consent of all owners is required to send CC to NY, then it's more possible than people are calculating at the moment. I couldn't put odds on it.
