how does that make sense? belmont park is open every day. they just don't race there. if you race with no fans in the afternoon you still have the same group of people dealing with the horses.
if this is such a threat why weren't the horses all shipped out of new york to a farm somewhere and belmont park completely shut down.

Obviously, NYRA has to prove that the extra people that will be around to put on the races will be safe, but I can't see why Belmont can't open other than those 7 guidelines Cuomo has in place for reopening areas of NY. Technically Long Island and Queens haven't passed yet. That might take another 2 weeks. If he used common sense though, it's pretty obvious that NYRA has been preparing for awhile and the racetrack is a very unique business in that most of the activity is already taking place anyway. Plus, other tracks have already demonstrated it can be done safely. Belmont needs to come back! We can worry about Saratoga after that.

Saratoga 2020 meet
i just looked at about 20 discussions regarding the Saratoga 2020 meet, with various debates how and if fans could attend the races.
Based upon the fact the Saratoga and NY Bred sales wil will not be held at Saratoga and will be held at the Fasig Tipton facility in Lexington Ky, it should be clear that fans will not be permitted to attend the 2020 Saratoga meet.
I've attended the sales for 28 consecutive years, a great place to meet fellow
owners and breeders.
Based on the above decision, it would appear racing fans , which should include
owners, most likely will not be permitted entry to the track,

This guy has a bad attitude, he should be more caring and start by not being part of the problem as lockdown denier.

There are plenty of things I acknowledge not knowing. My position on the pandemic is simply to defer to actual experts.
(And by the way, I generally defer to the handicapping experts here too. People like cj and, yes, the little guy have forgotten more about handicapping than I'm ever going to know.)

538 an excellent site.
Nate Silver as a pundit is terrible.
Dick Morris terrible.
He should stick what he does best and leave the punditry to the experts.

A few in my neighborhood in Queens tried to stay open for takeout and delivery, but eventually closed. Just recently a few reopened. We'll see how long it lasts.

obviously there are not going to be any fans at saratoga or any tracks for a long time, however the sport does not need fans. it just needs the racing. there is no reason to not race at saratoga or belmont. the horses and the people that take care of them are at the racetrack no matter what. the animals need to be fed and get their exercise daily.
they are back at santa anita now. only new york is in this delusional, non-fact based world, where politicians that fail to understand how racetracks work are making decisions.
give gulfstream and tampa and florida a ton of credit. they always understood racing in the afternoons increases no risk as long as fans are not allowed. if a horse goes to the track in the morning then they can go in the afternoon. this is not difficult to understand.

He should have just tempered his argument by saying we can start opening up as long as we continue to social distance, continue to use masks, improve testing, use more contact tracing, take extra precautions with old and vulnerable groups, and measure impacts so we don't revisit the point where we are worried about hospitals being overrun again.
I'll say it a thousand times.
Too many people in this country see everything as back or white when there is this vast middle of compromise and balance where the solution is found.

this is what the morons in the government fail to understand. some businesses should stay shut down. it makes no sense to open them. however, others can easily open and function profitably with no risk. you can't treat everyone the same. after months of this, the idiots are beginning to realize they were wrong.
what these idiots did to hospitals is mind boggling. shutting down elective surgeries throughout the country was beyond irresponsible. everyone does not live in new york city, but the idiots in the government assumed everyone gets on subways all day long. their belief that the coronavirus would overwhelm hospitals all over america was never based on science. it was just a bunch of idiots in the government that had no idea how hospitals and doctors work. virtually every hospital outside a major city complained that there was no curve to flatten where they were located. the government just ignored them and ruined hospitals financially. the government found money for the kennedy center, which needed no money, but has not found money for hospitals that lost all the money from being forced to shut down. the amount of hospitals that had just a hand full of coronavirus cases is enormous. and the government just ignored these hospitals in all their stimulus funding.

The frustrating part about that though, Mr Magician, is that the various states' policies were guided by doctors who had at some point become unelected "public health czars" who should have known how doctors and hospitals function. Here in Ohio ours attained celebrity status almost immediately, like Fauci did nationally. I was tired of her act before the end of March. But there you go; it wasn't just "idiots in government" doing the overreach. It was medical professionals stepping way up in class without encountering any resistance.

agreed. it is amazing how stupid these people are. everyone knew there were going to be three huge problems for hospitals.
1) an increase in costs due to preparing for the virus. even if they did not believe they would be hit hard, they had to prepare. expensive.
2) they had an increase in uninsured showing up in their hospitals, due to job losses, or just people who had no health insurance but showed up in the er with "symptoms" they though were coronavirus. expensive
3) they were told to pay for the preparation and uninsured but couldn't operate. no income to pay for all the costs.
and the government had money for the kennedy center and other pet projects but ignored the hospitals, except for those with large cases of coronavirus.

So who is the Expert in the REAL problem - here?
Hint - COVID is only 1 problem - it is not the only problem.
Experts in COVID are destroying the economy and the country.
And none of them were elected.
We need to address ALL the problems, not just the one.
