Probably not, but having been raised in a Pa. Dutch home where we canned and made our own sauerkraut(from cabbage), I've heard that said. Same could be said for stringbeans that were cooked for hours with chunks of ham and potatoes in a crock or pot. But then, their taste was enhanced by the ham and potatoes.

No food has to be "boring," when prepared properly and applying a little creativity.

A simple Hungarian-style dish that my mother regularly made, and boy did I love it...still do, when I make it myself:

Cabbage Noodles
  • shredded cabbage softened with salt and thoroughly drained
  • then shredded cabbage sauteed in butter until slightly browned
  • sliced onions sauteed in butter until slightly browned
  • mix all of the above with prepared broad egg noodles
  • savor the taste

Half that list is great fresh either dipped in ranch dressing or ranch dressing poured on it.

true - but that is because you love ranch dressing

you would probably love the plainest cracker with ranch

the food itself wouldn't enhance the taste - it only provided a base for it

Celery with cream cheese or peanut butter

Steamed green beans swimming in butter and salt

Raw carrots better than cooked

But I get it, mostly plain is not for me also.

Grew up on almost the same.
no egg noodles
bacon added first and sauté everything else in the bacon fat.

I don’t understand the purpose of this thread.

Why would anyone eat boring food?

Unless your mother put it on your plate. ;-)

I put Tabasco or Louisiana hot sauce and margarine on a lot of cooked veggies.

I can't even be around those items. I will find a way to devour the whole container asap. When I was in between cats I had to put down some mouse traps and I used peanut butter. I would put a small amount in each trap and then the whole jar would be gone in a day. I just ate it straight out of the jar with a spoon. Same thing with any kind of nuts.
