Louisiana seems to lead the world in shenanigans when it comes to horse racing.

You'd have to imbibe a ton of manure to play there seriously

It ain't just racing. Most corrupt state in the union. In the 80's the New Orleans PD recruiters would tell you in interviews that you will make more "on the side" than your salary

I know this stuff happens more than not at rinky-dink tracks. It's basic economics, most of those people are probably barely surviving living out in trailers behind the track. They feel they have no choice, it's a matter of survival to them.

RR at Aqueduct is another one I'm suspicious about. Wasn't a few years ago the guy was barely an 8% rider. Now all of a sudden he's a leading trainer. He claims a horse and miraculously first race off the claim horse is a whole new animal. I guess he's Rudy the horse whisperer Been reviewing my AQU records and in bad mood. I'll stop the loser talk.

Honestly some of the books about New Orleans in the 60's to 80's are simply terrifying. They paid the cops about $20K but you were allowed to freelance. The thinking is Bourbon Street bars would hire you. A large group of cops decided to freelance with crack dealers. There were multiple murders of rival dealers by cops in uniform.
I knew a guy who ran a check cashing store off the French Quarter in the late 80's early 90's. He used to say New Orleans was like living in 1920's or 1930's. He regularly met grifters, hit men, con men, second story guys, art thiefs, jewel thiefs, ponzi men. Not a month went by that you met a criminal who did something you thought went away 30-40 years earlier. Basically the cops and these guys had an understanding. If you didn't conduct your business in New Orleans the cops wouldn't hassle you including any open warrants or other agencies looking for you. So you had this collection of professional criminals who spent time in the city when not working in other places.

Remember the race at a foggy Louisiana track about 20-22 years ago where they went around twice and one of the horses waited in the fog and only went around once?

Circumstances Remain Foggy on Suspension of Jockey Carmouche

BATON ROUGE, La. — Delta Downs, carved out of a swamp, often is so foggy the crowd that wouldn't know if Lady Godiva pranced by the grandstand.
They certainly couldn't see how jockey Sylvester Carmouche stole the 11th race on Jan. 6--if he did....

More of a reason to look forward to microchipping. Then again, im sure when it happens there will be a story of how the chips themselves were taken out and switched
