Very, very sad. One of, if not the best finisher in the last two decades and he was truly a great rider when he was dialed in. Way too young.

My understanding is it's true...
The hold up on people reporting it or a story is he died on Tribal land which makes processes like declaring him deceased more complicated.
I've always had a lot of compassion for Garrett. Drug issues aside I felt he had a lot of bad breaks. He rode several champions (Rags to Ritches and Looking at Lucky being two) who saw bigger success with other riders. I always believed if Lucky drew an outside post versus the rail in the Derby he wins. Then Garrett never gets booted and maybe wins a triple crown.
He was a guy who rode hard and well and never hurt anyone but himself.

RIP way too young to pass. I actually didn't know he retired as I believe he was riding on the So Cal circuit most recently and I don't play those tracks.
