Baaeed

Well then...here's the best horse on the planet.
Got the 10f with ease at York today in the Gr1 Juddmonte International, running his record to 10-10.

I saw him at Royal Ascot and Goodwood. He just cruises up to the leaders and goes by with ease.
Don't know the Euro racing calendar too well...what's next for him? Will they try to get 12f in the Arc?
He looks like he can beat anyone at any distance on any type of ground.

That turn of foot sure was impressive when he was asked for it.

Think his options must be:

Sept 10th Irish Champion 10f
Oct 2nd Arc 12f
Oct 15th Champion Stakes 9f at Ascot
Breeders' Cup Turf. Think he would be aimed for this instead of the Mile.

Trainer has said he will go for the Champion Stakes at Ascot. It would be nice to see him go for the Arc ( or even Breeders Cup) but I don't see that happening.

It really was a superlative performance and he handled the longer trip with ease beating a really good horse in Mishriff.

Comparisons are being made with both Frankel and Baaeed's own sire Sea The Stars. I wouldn't quite put him that high yet but he is certainly up the very best we have seen.

If the 3yo Vadeni has progressed over the summer perhaps he could be the one to upend Baaeed. He handled some of the same horses (albeit not with the same consummate ease as Baaeed) in the Eclipse (Mishriff, Native Trail) and the French Derby (Modern Games). He's pretty much the only 3yo colt of any merit that has not been exposed or injured at this point. Pointing for the Irish Champion for his next race.

Also pointing for the Champion is last year's Derby & King George hero Adayar who has had a bunch of false starts this year. Supposed to run in a prep next month and may squeeze in the Arc before Ascot.

Not sure why State of Rest was dropped back to a mile the other day to be humiliated but his presence in any of the Champions will give those races a boost beyond the bridesmaid Mishriff, some tired Coolmore has-been, an interchangeable Appleby horse, and a couple of Group 2-types that have made Baaeed and even Pyledriver look like world-beaters.

Speaking of Coolmore, the come backing Luxembourg was brave in his return when headed late and he's supposed to go to the Irish Champion next. But you never know with Coolmore, perhaps the horse will go the route of Yeats/St. Nicholas Abbey and fulfill his hype after missing the middle distance classics or just as easily he can wind up another High Definition, Japan, Mogul, and many more names beyond.

Luxembourg seems like the type of horse OBrien would send to America to get a cheap & easy G1 for the breeding page (yea I know he has the Racingpost trophy, but I don't think that'll be of value breeding wise)

Baaeed

BUMP:

Will try to close out a perfect 11-11 career today at Ascot in the Gr1-Champions Stakes at 10f.
Main rivals (if you wanna call them that) are Adayar and Bay Bridge, but this one seems like most of his other races...a stroll in the park.
Ground is a little soft but that shouldn't bother him.
Post is 10am central time.

Adayar, with just a public workout on his record this year, ran like a short horse, especially with that early sweeping move by William Buick.

Baaeed ran like a good horse that was facing Group 1 horses for the first time.

Bay Bridge was all the rage as an up-and-comer this summer (much like Baaeed last year) until he got spanked a couple of times against top company; Racing Post probably had it right when they commented before the race that perhaps he doesn't care for firm ground.

A real shame to see Baaeed beaten even though I had an each way bet on the winner. I think Baaeed just didn't seem to pick up in the very soft ground. He's still a champion to me. I was at Ascot today and took these pictures.

Baybridge winning and Baaeed in black and white.
