Is Mott William I serving a suspension?
Thought I read this recently and notice that in Belmont's 5th race on Saturday, there are 2 horses "previously" trained by him. Reported as being trained by Leanna Willaford, his assistant. Is it really that easy to get around a suspension?
Found it.

This is simply unprecedented...except for the other million times it's happened.

I just figured they had to be a little more creative with it. I mean, this is just so obvious what is happening. Why even suspend someone? Makes suspensions a non penalty. And gives the trainer a way to make the money for the fine while they are suspended. It is like I get suspended from work, but the company I work for hires me as a consultant for the time I am suspended.

When I was perusing the PPs this morning I came across Ms Willaford's name on a short priced horse and never heard of her and googled. She did train some in the 90s but here is probably a front for a suspended Mott. That will show him.

I think it boils down to did the owner or should the owner be held responsible. A blameless owner maybe should get to run their horses but one's that benefited or just involved in a transgression that gets the trainer suspended should have to sit out as well.

The owner is the ultimate responsibility for the horses he owns.
Period.
Owners who don't want to have their barns suspended need to be more careful who they hire as a trainer or a vet.
You cannot outsource your responsibility.

The counterpoint to this is that the owners are already overburdened in this game...and a rule like this would make them even more frustrated with the game than they already are. Of course...the horseplayer's "frustration" is of no significance.

And back in 1982 the dumb pollsters were so mad at Clemson that they denied an undefeated SMU team the national championship.

This morning, 3rd hour of ATR - Drew Molica discusses the Mott suspension.
Pretty enlightening. IF what he says is all true, NYRA has been living in the dark about drug testing and people's CONSTITUTIONAL rights while ignoring science.
Hard to believe this is the Crown Jewel of horse racing with such incompetence allowed to not only continue but to be DEFENDED!
Listen for yourself and decide. The details are outrageous.

NYRA? Or do you mean the New York State Gaming Commission?
They aren't the same thing.

Who collects and saves the samples for testing?
It sounded like Molica was talking about NYRA.
Whoever was supposed to collect them is the incompetent idiots.
Who hands out the suspensions?
They are also not the brightest people on board. The original suspension was issued by a moron and defended by his peers.
