Belmont doesn't have a casino...they closed...on a Sunday no less...
It isn't uncommon for a track to cancel in the summer due to temps hitting above 95 (it's 96 currently in Philly and it's only noon)...and there is an excessive heat warning for the area up on the NWS.
So yeah, I doubt it has much to do with a casino, and more that it would be bad optics for a horse to drop dead (and possibly kill someone) during a race due to heat exhaustion.
Probably more so these days because all these horses are doped up on LASIX which probably doesn't help matters when it's 96 degrees with 52% humidity and a heat index of 105.

Yeah, exactly the same circumstances. Didn't realize you were a racehorse.
What's up Mr. Ed.

Actually , I drive a shuttle van for a Hotel...
with in a half hour...
1) load van , passengers (up to 14)and their luggage
2) drive to airport...unload at up to 3 terminals...go to 4th and pick up more passengers..
3) bring back to hotel and unload ...
4) start it all over again...
try this 14 runs per day in 90+ days...and this is going in and out of the van each time
And the best thing they dont give a freaking crap!!!
Sorry...If dont fell bad if the horse has a 90 secs race...

i am training to run a marathon in October. today was my day to go up to 11 miles. i made the 11 miles with a bad hip and 2 bad knees, but i was not going full tilt. if i did i would be under the count now. horses go double full tilt and don't belong on the tracks today. i can tell just by the way my body feels right this second.

heat index here has been 105-107. My dog is missing our long walks, but I'm not going to expose him to this heat.
Horses running on lasix.....in this heat? Um....no.

Then again, you still have a choice. You might lose your job, but you can still tell your boss to screw it if you want to.
Horses don't really have that option.
Anyway, not sure why anyone would be against this kind of thing, but to each their own.

My son did a Triathlon on Sunday...it was 96 degrees
I'm not being facetious but the years Parx had no casinos...they would be on the track racing....

Maybe they should bring back the Aqueduct summer meet. I remember those epic battles among Foolish Pleasure, Forego, and Lord Rebeau at Aqueduct in the mid-'70s (1976 was the last year the Aqueduct summer meet was held). Otherwise, why did they get rid of the Inner Dirt Track and turn it back into a turf course?

It is a second turf course, not all weather. Do you mean a training track?
